SAIC is looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to support the Space Reactor-1 (SR-1) Freedom Nuclear Power Module (NPM) Verification and Validation (V&V) efforts.  SR-1 will demonstrate nuclear electric propulsion and provide a path to higher powered and longer duration Mars missions.

Supporting the SR-1 NPM Lead Systems Engineer, the selected candidate will be the technical lead for NPM V&V Planning and Execution.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the system is verified and validated using the defined mission success criteria
  • Defining verification methods for all requirements
  • Defining and maintaining the Verification Matrix to ensure industry partner’s V&V plans align with system-level V&V
  • Ensuring the NPM V&V Plan is in-line with the SR-1 Vehicle V&V Plan
  • Coordinating subsystem and system level test planning for requirement closure criteria
  • Validation of mission requirements and concept of operations
  • Collaborating with the Integration & Test and External Interfaces technical leads
  • Being the interface to the with the mission level V&V planning effort

Location:

  • Work will be performed onsite at NASA GRC in Cleveland, Ohio, 5-days a week

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Experience with verification and validation planning and execution
  • Demonstrated experience in systems engineering on complex hardware
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating across cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently
  • Team player dedicated to the mission

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with spaceflight hardware projects
  • Experience working with NASA, Department of Energy, or defense/naval systems engineering processes and procedures
  • INCOSE CSEP

Education/Experience:

  • Completed at least a bachelor of science degree in a STEM-related major from an accredited program with the following education and experience
    • Bachelors and nine (9) years or more of relevant experience
    • Masters and seven (7) years or more of relevant experience
    • PhD or JD and four (4) years or more of relevant experience

Target salary range: $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
