Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and provide daily support of the Launch Hardware Fabrication team:
    • Support diverse team of fabrication technicians who specialize in a very broad range of projects and skills
    • Ensure all employees are trained and competent on required tools and equipment
    • Ensure employees have the necessary resources, product, tools and/or equipment
    • Assess employee performance providing positive and constructive feedback, conflict resolution, address performance issues with corrective actions in performance improvement plans or through disciplinary actions
    • Provide leadership by setting an example, being a model, taking input from everyone and deciding how it fits according to our strategic initiatives
    • Identify process improvement, and ensure operations are lean, efficient and effective
  • Ensure that fabrication personnel and resources are properly allocated to meet site priority
  • Communicate priority and schedule within the different Fabrication teams to maximize efficiency
  • Ensure the team is following all necessary regulations and appropriate SpaceX procedures including quality policies, safety policies, AS9100, OSHA, EPA, NIOSH, NFPA, ASME, NEC, etc. standards
  • Champion change, and effectively manage the implementation of new ideas
  • Maintain a positive, healthy work environment, and continually promote the SpaceX culture
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 2+ years of experience working hands-on in a production, manufacturing, or launch environment
  • 1+ years of prior leadership experience leading teams or projects

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years of experience serving in a leadership role with direct reports
  • Knowledge of ERP systems
  • Intermediate level in Microsoft Office such as OneNote, Visio, Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Associate degree
  • Background in industrial fabrication and construction
  • Knowledge in the build processes used by the launch hardware team
  • Management experience with a particular emphasis on strategic planning
  • Knowledge of fluid, structural, electrical, and controls systems - system design, pitfalls, potential hazards, expected operation, etc.
  • Ability to delegate tasks and make use of resources to get things done effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to understand and interpret technical manuals, 2D drawings, P&IDs, fluid and electrical schematics and other engineering documentation
  • Knowledge of hazardous systems - cryogenic, flammable, hypergolic, pyrophoric
  • Knowledge of high pressure system design and handling
  • Knowledge of supply chain (material management and material distribution)
  • Ability to communicate professionally to parties both internal and external to SpaceX
  • Ability to effectively resolve conflict in a calm and diplomatic manner
  • Knowledge of Launch site infrastructure, product development, and launch/recovery operations
  • Model and support the foundational culture of safety, quality, and reliability
  • Use AI assistants/agents for augmentation and acceleration of self and team effectiveness

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
  • Ability to support and supervise operations outside of normal business hours, when required
  • General physical fitness is required for some work areas
  • Standing, lifting, and carrying light weight, such as materials or equipment (35 lbs. unassisted), are generally required to perform the functions of this position
  • Typically exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments - heat, cold, rain, ice
  • Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends; flexibility required
