Job Description

SpaceX is looking for an exceptional engineer with experience in networking technologies in mission critical environments and/or large-scale production facilities. This employee will be a member of the IT Launch engineering team, which is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the networks used for the manufacturing, testing, and launching of Starship & Super Heavy spacecraft. The engineer in this position will be hands-on with network hardware and be directly responsible for the IT systems used by launch/production operations, automation & controls engineering, facilities, and other partner teams essential for our missions. Additionally this employee will present in launch & test readiness reviews and sit as a responsible engineer during test/launch operations. The ideal candidate will be a great communicator, be able to triage work in a ticketing system, excel at multi-tasking, investigate issues to publish root cause analysis of failures, and enjoy a fast-paced high-tech environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and implement highly available mission critical networks.
  • Procure, configure, and install IT hardware including servers, switches, UPS, PDU, and environmental monitoring
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network related issues, publishing root cause analysis (RCA) documentation and hosting post-mortem data reviews
  • Plan and coordinate network outage windows with stakeholders to perform software updates, hardware refreshes, and general network maintenance
  • Perform job walks with customers, vendors, and contractors to gather network requirements and create implementation plans accordingly
  • Design and maintain our launch data centers in accordance to our network standards
  • Monitor network health using in-house and 3rd party tools
  • Continuously create and update network documentation
  • Implement and evolve software tooling for increased automation of configurations, updates, documentation, and other currently manual processes

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or other STEM discipline and 3+ years of professional network engineering experience; OR 5+ years of professional network engineering experience in lieu of a degree

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Understanding of the OSI model and network standards
  • Hands-on experience with the following:
    • Cisco Catalyst and Arista data center class switches
    • Wave Division Multiplexing and Fiber Optics
    • DNS, DHCP, SNMP, IP helpers, ARP, CDP, LLDP
    • Switch port security features
    • Network monitoring tools
    • Cable testing tools
    • Documentation and procedural installation
  • Linux/Windows system administration
  • Industry standard certifications such as CCNA or CCNP

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work in tight quarters and physical dexterity is necessary to preform job functions.
  • Availability for extended hours and/or weekends, as the schedule varies depending on site operational needs; flexibility is required.
  • Ability to provide 24x7 on-call support in emergency situations.
