Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS) is seeking motivated and dedicated Aerospace Systems Safety and Airworthiness Engineer to join the System Safety and Mission Assurance team in Everett, WA.

Our team is currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including, Associate (Level 2) or Mid-Level (Level 3) Aerospace Systems Safety and Airworthiness Engineer.

As a Systems Safety Engineer, you will have a unique opportunity to engage with the entire life cycle of our Mobility & Surveillance programs, from conceptual development through design and testing, to production and sustainment of fielded aircraft. This includes working on prominent programs such as the P-8, KC-46, E-7, and VC-25B, all based in the Puget Sound region.

In this role, you will gain insight into the complexities of the defense industry while obtaining hands-on experience with the aircraft. The Systems Safety team is responsible for the Systems Safety efforts for each of the Mobility & Surveillance products, conducting analysis and oversight for fundamental aircraft functions, and leading design safety activities for the aircraft’s mission systems. Additionally, the team provides guidance and integration with Mission Assurance and other related functions, including Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health teams, focusing on airworthiness, design for Environment, Health and Safety, and the Hazardous Materials Management Program.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with the BCA In-Service Airplane Safety Engineering (ASE) team to assess in-service fleet risks
  • Analyzes potential operational safety issues including presenting at safety review board
  • Demonstrates safety hazard risk mitigations and control methods to the customer and regulators
  • Leads ensuring mission success through execution of Mission Assurance activities throughout the program lifecycle
  • Leads and Implement Systems Safety analysis activities (HTS/FTA/SSA/Etc)
  • Identifies and mitigates all potential and existing hazards 
  • Leads identifying safety and mission assurance issue systemic root causes and recommends corrective actions using industry best practices
  • Collaborates with Engineering Design Teams while learning all of the aircraft subsystems and their interactions
  • Asks tough questions, challenge conventional thinking and bring potential hazards to light for our aircraft and crew 
  • Leads, influences or reviews tests, analyses, inspections, audits, and simulations to verify system meets defined safety and mission assurance requirements
  • Assesses Engineering documents, data and artifacts, while working with Engineering Teams to determine the safest and most cost effective solutions to actual and potential hazards 
  • Gathers data from field, factory and engineering, calculating probability and severity of possible outcome and work with Design teams to influence a safer more robust system
  • Collaborates with all levels of Engineering and Program Management and Customers 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Level 2: 2+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship
  • Experience in systems safety engineering, systems engineering and/or data analytics in the aerospace and/or automotive industry

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):

  • Level 3: 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience effectively communicating, both verbally and in writing, and collaborating on multi-discipline teams
  • Experience do you have in traditional engineering analytical methods and Aerospace/Industry Standards (such as SAE and RTCA standards)
  • Experience in systems design and/or systems analysis and/or systems integration
  • Experience working with cross discipline engineering teams

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary Pay Range:

  • Associate (Level 2): $94,350 - $127,650
  • Mid-Level (Level 3): $114,750 - $155,250
