This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce. About the Position: This position is located at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Harford, MD. This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date. Major duties
Serve as the Assistant Fire Chief/Shift Supervisor in charge of the Emergency Services Division. Functions as acting Fire Chief when Fire Chief is not on shift and makes decisions on administrative matters and in emergency situations. Coordinates with Fire Chief in planning and administration within activities of the fire prevention and protection programs. Investigates fires to determine cause, origin, and contributing factors; assesses damage and monetary loss; and preserves evidence for official proceedings. Performs regular inspections of fire stations to ensure they are clean, orderly, and operated according to established policies. Ensures that all required records and data files for the Fire Prevention and Protection Division are accurately maintained and current. Briefs the Fire Chief and incoming shift supervisors on all significant events, including alarms, service requests, equipment failures, and operational changes. Supervise and direct the work of subordinate firefighters. Plans and conducts training and educational activities in fire prevention and protection programs.
Qualification
Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Supervising work in controlling and extinguishing fires, emergency medical and HAZMAT situations 2) Distributing, coordinating, and monitoring work assignments of others and 3) ; evaluating, planning and directing the fire prevention and protection programs and operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). Selective Placement Factors: This position requires you to possess and maintain at the time of application the following DoD, ProBoard, or IFSAC Firefighter Certification levels: Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, HAZMAT Incident Commander and Airport Firefighter. This position requires you to possess and maintain Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Certification issued by the State of Maryland or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (NREMT-B).
