***ACCESS TO MEDICAL AND DENTAL CARE IN JAPAN IS EXTREMELY LIMITED. Please see Additional Information section below.*** You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIRE PROTECTION SPECIALIST of COMMANDER, NAVAL REGION JAPAN.
Major duties
You will initiate, plan, develop, and instruct curriculum for formal courses. You will research, develop, implement and enforce and reduce risk involved in the operations of a fire department. You will recommend policy changes in the area of firefighter safety, including personal protective gear, vehicles, equipment and facilities using national consensus standards as guidelines. You will maintain training records, prepare daily lesson plans, schedules and instructs classes.
Qualification
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following. Experience developing and instructing curriculum for formal courses related to fire and emergency services; Experience developing and implementing risk management requirements that reduces risk involved in the operations of a fire department; Experience supervising, evaluating, and auditing drills and responses of a fire department. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Additional Condition of Employment: This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. Work requires participation in the DoD firefighter certification program -Selectee must possess and maintain a current FIRE OFFICER III, FIRE INSPECTOR II, FIRE INSTRUCTOR III, HAZMAT INCIDENT - COMMAND certification. You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license. You must have a successful completion of an Emergency Vehicle Operator Course. Work requires an annual physical.Work requires participation in a physical fitness program. Must be physically fit and pass required annual physical and meet the medical and physical fitness entrance requirements. Must be able to wear protective clothing and equipment, weighing up to 100 pounds, while working in extreme heat and cold adverse conditions, such as fire and smoke. Climbs ladders and works at various heights. Ability to maintain alertness, self-control, and emotional stability while developing, evaluating, and instructing a comprehensive training /prevention program. Incumbent will be required to work a 60-hour work week with eating and sleeping facilities provided in accordance with general firefighting practices. Work schedule will consist of four 9-hour days and one 24-hour shift per week.
Education
This job does not have an education qualification requirement. Priority consideration will be given to military spouse preference and family member preference eligible residing in the commute area of the duty location for this position. Commute area is defined as the geographic area surrounding the duty location in which people can reasonably be expected to travel back and forth daily. Military Spouses and Family Members may apply 30 days before their anticipated arrival date. However, they will not receive preference until arrival at the foreign location. Additional documentation may be required prior to granting preference. Military spouses and family members who are appointed may not extend longer than 2 months following the transfer of the sponsor from the commuting area of the foreign duty station; 2 months beyond the separation of the appointee's sponsor; or any time beyond the time employee ceases to be a family member.
