About the Position: This position is assigned to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy (DASD (MC&FP), Assistant Secretary of Defense for Manpower and Reserve Affairs (M&RA), Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, Personnel and Readiness (USD (P&R)). This position may be eligible for situational telework as determined by the agency policy.

Major duties

Develops and implements strategies that enhance the quality of life for service members and their families through nutrition readiness and food security programs. Leads the development of evidence-based policies and programs, ensuring alignment with DoD priorities and legislative requirements. Provides program oversight, identifying systemic and individual challenges related to nutrition readiness and food security, and develops strategies to resolve these issues. Conducts in-depth analysis of program data and trends to identify gaps, measure effectiveness, and recommend improvements. Prepares detailed reports, briefings, and congressional testimony to inform senior leadership and policymakers. Engages with military leaders, federal agencies, non-governmental organizations, and community partners to strengthen program delivery and address emerging challenges. Leads special projects and assignments on complex issues related to nutrition readiness and food security, coordinating cross-functional teams to address critical challenges and develop innovative solutions. Serves as a subject-matter expert and advocate for nutrition readiness and food security programs, representing the Department of Defense in public forums, conferences, and stakeholder meetings.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes evaluating nutrition readiness and food security programs for service members and their families, developing policy and communications/education materials on nutrition readiness and food security programs, collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders to improve the delivery of nutrition readiness and food security programs, and supporting senior leadership and congressional reporting related to military nutrition readiness and food security programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
