Tooele Army Depot (TEAD) is an US Army Military Installation located approximately 45 miles West of Salt Lake City, Utah. TEAD is a premier active joint ammunition storage site. TEAD is responsible for shipping, storing, receiving, inspecting, demilitarization, and maintaining training and war reserve conventional ammunition. Tooele’s Ammunition Equipment and Manufacturing Directorate (AEMD) designs and manufacturers ammunition peculiar equipment (APE) used in maintenance and demilitarization of munitions for all the Department of Defense (DoD). The Depot is in Tooele County and surrounded by the communities of Tooele, Grantsville, Stockton, and Rush Valley. The area surrounding the depot is as an urban center for a highly varied productive industrial and agricultural industries.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities and the Major Range and Test Facilities Base to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position installs, aligns, repairs, overhauls, and maintains production machinery and equipment used in the manufacture, renovation, and demilitarization of conventional ammunition.

Major duties

Maintain a variety of fixed or semi-fixed production machinery and equipment used in the manufacture, renovation, and demilitarization of conventional ammunition. Run diagnostic testing and troubleshooting all equipment and machinery to determine cause of malfunction. Plan and layout work from blueprints, drawings, sketches, and oral instructions. Breakdown equipment and equipment components inspecting parts and replacing as required. Adjust and repair production machinery and equipment.

Qualification

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Production Machinery Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Must possess the ability to perform common tasks including applying specific maintenance and repair procedures to install, repair, overhaul, align, and test production machinery equipment while interpreting multi-view drawings, sketches, and specifications and applying a variety of methods and techniques. I can detect malfunctions, determine corrective measures, and make repairs using test equipment and measuring devices, such as feeler gauges, micrometers, tachometers, portable machines, and hand tools. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Average weights handled are about 50 pounds. Hoists, dollies and cranes are available for use with heavy objects. Considerable standing, stooping, crawling, and working in strained or awkward positions is required. Must have good coordination and balance in working around machinery while in operation. The two person lift limit is 100 pounds and will only be used for single event, non-routine lifts. WORKING CONDITIONS: Most work is performed indoors. Uncomfortable conditions exist such as noise, dirt, grease, vibrations, poor illumination and ventilation, and unpleasant odors. Incumbent is exposed to possibility of burns from hot water and steam while working on high pressure steam lines; subject to strains, cuts, and bruises while working with wrenches and other tools; subjected to hazards of working around moving machinery; and subjected to explosive hazards while working on production equipment while explosive operations are in progress. ????
