Job summary
About the Position: This position is a licensed, specialty trained, Physician (Obstetrics/Gynecology) that provides direct medical services to eligible beneficiaries at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP) Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) and its area of responsibility. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Major duties
The purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive obstetrical and gynecological care for all age groups and to optimize female readiness. Serve as a nationally recognized expert, consultant, faculty member, and/ or advisor on boards and committees, in conferences, and other activities involving the health care of the population served. Serves as a recognized board-certified expert in the delivery of Obstetrics and Gynecological (OB/GYN) medical care to female patients of various ages, conditions, and complexities. Serves as member of the professional medical staff and/ or faculty to provide advisory and consultative services on various meetings, committees, conferences, and/ or boards. Independently performs examinations, diagnosis, and formulates full treatment plans based on sound evaluation and diagnoses consistent with current and/ or evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. Applies new procedures in the evaluation and treatment of complex patient cases and conducts research for the advancement of the OB/ GYN program and for quality improvement to other providers and patients. Provide comprehensive care to all female patients, taking into account factors such as new and/or emerging procedures and techniques and the patient’s personal history, as well as information gained through diagnostic tests.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Physician (Obstetrics/Gynecology): Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Graduates of foreign nursing schools must have completed the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools Certification Program. The certification program consists of a credentials evaluation, the CGFNS Qualifying Exam, and evidence of passing one of the approved English Language Proficiency examinations. A copy of the CGFNS Certificate is required. Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Residency Training: Applicants must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled Obstetrics/Gynecology and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 5 years. Experience may not be substituted for residency training that is required for the specialty identified. Physician (Obstetrics/Gynecology): Salary for physician positions is based on a tier scale, determined by the position specialty, grade and location.
