Job summary

Major duties

You will utilize radiation detection instruments to determine if objects are radioactive, or not radioactive, and report results to a qualified Technician. You will conduct routine surveillances of worksites, identifying and documenting basic findings. You will assemble radiation survey and sampling equipment for radiological control areas aboard ships and in the shipyard. You will conduct radiation surveys, and air and water sampling and determine radiation and radioactivity levels and record results. You will operate radiological control points under the direction of a fully qualified Radiological Control Technician.

Qualification

For GS-2 Your resume must demonstrate 3 months of general experience For GS-3: Your resume must demonstrate 6 months of general experience General Experience: (l) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: Physical Science Technician Series 1311 (opm.gov) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

Education may be substituted for experience as follows: For the GS-02 Successful completion of a High School diploma or equivalent For the GS-03 Successful completion of 1 (one) year of study that included at least 6 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics; or A combination of education as described above and experience that equals 100 percent.
