The mission of the 47th Medical Group at Laughlin Air Force Base is to support the 47th Flying Training Wing’s medical, dental and aeromedical needs in support of Laughlin’s Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training mission. The medical group is responsible for the health care of more than 3,400 Department of Defense (DoD) beneficiaries and ensuring the medical readiness mission for wartime and worldwide contingencies.

About the Position: This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Major duties

Provide specialized nursing care to emergent patients with illness and injuries that require adaptation of established nursing procedures to include triage of patients based upon chief complaint and presenting symptoms. Assess nursing needs to provide safe and efficient nursing care. Collaborate with Medical staff, the healthcare team, and the patient/family/significant others to establish optimal treatment and diagnostic priorities. Identify life-threatening illness or injury and initiates emergency/critical care measures according to adult, pediatric and neonatal advanced life support protocols. Provide for telephone triage and nurse consultation per protocol. Administer all emergency and routine medications per command policy, as well as aerosol inhalants and titration of vasoactive medications. Provide follow-up call back for adverse laboratory/x-ray results. Communicate with attending physician staff in a timely manner for changes in patient condition and responds to interventions. Promote positive relationship among patients, their significant other, and the healthcare team. Directs particular attention to supporting emotional needs in a demanding and stressful emergency care environment. Assist with Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training for military ambulance crews. Plan and assigns duties to staff members based on patient care requirements, staff expertise, and overall department priorities of care.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Nurse: Degree: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. ** Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017, or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. ** Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. ** In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Education/Experience: A diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in nursing from a professional nursing program and possession of at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or above) which includes providing comprehensive nursing care to medical and surgical patients, administering medications and overseeing nursing personnel in the provision of care. OR Education: A PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field. Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) from a professional nursing program. OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education from a professional nursing program.
