The mission of the 47th Medical Group at Laughlin Air Force Base is to support the 47th Flying Training Wing’s medical, dental and aeromedical needs in support of Laughlin’s Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training mission. The medical group is responsible for the health care of more than 3,400 Department of Defense (DoD) beneficiaries and ensuring the medical readiness mission for wartime and worldwide contingencies.

About the Position: The Clinical Nurse is an integral team member who provides conventional nursing care to clinic patients that has a level of responsibility for the oversight of day-to-day team activities and care coordination of patient's needs across the life span and continuum of care, provides guidance and direction to the team's licensed practical nurses and paraprofessional personnel, and contributes to all elements of a high reliable organization. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation
Major duties
Provides comprehensive nursing care to clinic patients utilizing evidence-based approach and application of clinical practice guidelines. The incumbent independently performs direct nursing care to clinic patients via telemedicine, virtual, and face-to-face care to include triage, procedures, nurse-managed protocols, and medication management. Incumbent assists clinician with physical examinations, treatments, diagnostic procedures, and coordination of health care needs of patients. Incumbent tracks patient's laboratory, radiology, and referral results to completion and tracks at-risk patients by following the plan of care and assisting in making future appointments. Incumbent initiates and maintains medical history on patients, records observations and stated symptoms for use by the clinician. Incumbent observes and records pertinent vital signs and orders laboratory procedures on patients that may be required for clinician.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. For qualifications determinations your resume must contain hours worked per week and the dates of employment (i.e., hours per week and "month/year" to 'month/year" or "month/year" to "present"). If a determination is not able to be made about the length of your creditable experience for qualification requirements, you will be removed from consideration. Basic Requirement for Nurse (Clinical): Degree: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. Foreign Degree: Graduates of foreign nursing schools must have completed the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools Certification Program. The certification program consists of a credential's evaluation, the CGFNS Qualifying Exam, and evidence of passing one of the approved English Language Proficiency examinations. A copy of the CGFNS Certificate is required. Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017, or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Education/Experience: A diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in nursing from a professional nursing program and possession of at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) which includes providing nursing care to a variety of patients, coordinating patient care, and providing patient education. OR Education: A master's degree in professional nursing. EXEMPTION: You are exempt from the qualification requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017, or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. Two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education or a master's or equivalent degree from a professional nursing program.
