The mission of the 47th Medical Group at Laughlin Air Force Base is to support the 47th Flying Training Wing’s medical, dental and aeromedical needs in support of Laughlin’s Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training mission. The medical group is responsible for the health care of more than 3,400 Department of Defense (DoD) beneficiaries and ensuring the medical readiness mission for wartime and worldwide contingencies.

About the Position: This position is located at the Directorate of Administration - Patient Administration at Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC), which is on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation
Major duties
Serve as Medical Records Technician (MRT), functioning primarily as an inpatient/ outpatient records coder. Ensure compliance with regulatory and requirements in utilizing the International Code of Diseases-10 Clinical Modifications (ICD-10-CM), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS). Assign specific codes to medical records, sequencing and determining codes to accurately reflect the resources and procedures used in the care of the patients. Use specialized procedures and methods to correct and amend records. Code complicated medical records having diagnostic, surgical and therapeutic procedures on specific DRGs that are identified as difficult to classify. Identify and document any incident which may denote a potential compensatory event or questionable breach of quality of care delivered.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Identifying the correct medical code for procedures that comply with regulatory requirements; interpreting provider documentation, operative reports, diagnostic results, or multidisciplinary notes to select correct coding; auditing patient records to ensure records are complete and accurate. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
