Job summary

About the Position: This position is located at Irwin Army Community Hospital, Fort Riley, KS. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purposes.

Major duties

Unload incoming shipments, using common hand tools and materials handling equipment up to 10,000 pounds capacity. Perform a broad range of standard storage assignments. Determine specific materials to be re-warehoused and consolidated. Match, check, and compare data on selection instruments against materials to be issued or shipped. Utilize banding, stretch wraps or other appropriate methods to secure materials.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Materials Handler (Forklift Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Materials Handler (Forklift Operator) duties. I have knowledge of warehousing methods and procedures, shipping and issuing techniques in order to select proper storage locations, stock and palletized items. I am knowledgeable in loading and unloading methods to prevent damage during transport and to expedite unloading. I am skilled in operating forklifts, hand trucks and other material handling equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading) Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) Physical Effort: Performs work on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending, lifting, reaching, and working in tiring positions. Frequently lifts items weighing up to 70 pounds and occasionally heavier items. Exerts physical effort in reaching, bending, turning or moving hands, arms, legs and feet to operate hand and foot controls on forklift, other materials handling equipment, and motor vehicle. Working Conditions: Required to work inside and outside. While working outside, bad weather may be encountered as vehicles have to be loaded and unloaded in the normal daily functions of issuing and receiving medical material. Subject to cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of loading and unloading vehicle, stacking and storing medical materials, etc. Occasionally works inside buildings that are cold, drafty or hot. Items handled include hazardous chemicals, acids and compressed gasses including items which are highly flammable. Required to wear safety clothing such as safety shoes, rubber gloves, rubber boots, safety glasses, goggles, helmets, and rubber aprons when handling certain items. Due to the nature of periodic unprogrammed medical emergencies, incumbent will be required to work overtime as requirements dictate.
