Job summary

About the Position: This position is located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Primary duties are throughout the hospital in patient care areas, storage areas, warehouses, loading docks, and in administrative office settings. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Major duties

Fix minor repairs. Perform preventative maintenance. Clean out traps and auxiliary equipment Use power and hand tools common to the trade. Assist higher graded worker in performance of maintenance, operation and repair. Sorts and cleans materials, tools, machines and equipment.

Qualification

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications: (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. Perform common maintenance duties such as fixing minor repairs, painting and upkeeping facilities. I am skilled in a variety of electrical tools and performing preventive maintenance. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: The incumbent may lift, carry, set up and handle tools, parts, equipment and materials that weight up to 50 pounds. May work from ladders, platforms, scaffolds and perform repairs, replacement where parts/systems are in hard to reach places. Requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling and climbing work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Working Conditions: The work is performed inside and outside. Incumbent is subject to climatic extremes in weather conditions. Work conditions may be dirty, dusty, greasy, noisy. Incumbent is exposed to fumes and bad smelling odors, broken bones, electric shock, bruises, burns scrapes, cuts infections. The wearing of specified trades and craft protective clothing, devices and equipment reduces dangers from cited conditions.
