Job summary
You will serve as a MACHINIST SUPERVISOR I in the Mechanical Shop (930), Production Resources Department Manager (902), Production Resources Department (900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Major duties
You will set the example of professional performance. You will implement methods that allow individual journeyman assigned to the Foreman to perform at continually higher levels of cost, quality and schedule performance. You will effectively support the economic efforts of the shipyard. You will clearly communicate performance standards to work leaders and journeymen. You will plan the use of workers, equipment, facilities, materials and tools provided through the (AIM) process for assigned units of work. You will establish deadlines, priorities, and work sequences. You will conduct job briefings, and readiness reviews in accordance with applicable nuclear instructions.
Qualification

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE Knowledge in basic nuclear courses, and nuclear instructions. Manufacturing, machining, repairing and finishing complex parts and components and operating various types of conventional and computer numerical control (CNC) machines. Determining work procedures, machine, tools, equipment, and attachments to be used. Determining sequence of machining operations. Knowledge of contracts with applicable employee unions. Knowledge of Adanced Industrial Managment (AIM) processes. Leading others and reviewing work. Establishing and assuring safety and housekeeping rules are followed. Planning the work of others, determining deadlines, estimating material, equipment. Planning the use of equipment, materials and tools. Through knowledge and practices of the machinist trade, practices, procedures Answering questions of workers on procedures, policies, instructions, or other directives. Communicating work assignments to subordinates. Interpreting procedures, blueprints, job orders. Monitoring status of assigned work as it relates to overall schedule requirements. Understanding, knowledge and skills of machining systems. AND Qualification in the basic nuclear courses per NPM Chapter VI-C-2 is a prerequisite to this position. In addition, basic nuclear trade skill qualifications applicable to the inside machinist trade must be maintained. Such qualifications are typically acquired by knowledge through a 4 year apprenticeship in the inside machinist trade. Must have a minimum of six months nuclear work experience in nuclear at a journeyman level or supervisory level.
