About U.S. Army Joint Munitions Command

Tooele Army Depot (TEAD) is an US Army Military Installation located approximately 45 miles West of Salt Lake City, Utah. TEAD is a premier active joint ammunition storage site. TEAD is responsible for shipping, storing, receiving, inspecting, demilitarization, and maintaining training and war reserve conventional ammunition. Tooele’s Ammunition Equipment and Manufacturing Directorate (AEMD) designs and manufacturers ammunition peculiar equipment (APE) used in maintenance and demilitarization of munitions for all the Department of Defense (DoD). The Depot is in Tooele County and surrounded by the communities of Tooele, Grantsville, Stockton, and Rush Valley. The area surrounding the depot is as an urban center for a highly varied productive industrial and agricultural industries.

Job summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is with the Joint Munitions Command located at the Pine Bluff Arsenal. This position serves as Industrial Worker performing a variety of chemical/biological defense duties/ammunition operations.

Major duties

Operate a number of automatic machines and equipment and perform a number of assembly operations. Complete visual inspections of products for defects and recognize when repairs are required. Perform cleaning, maintenance and repairs on a variety of equipment. Follow precise instructions in meeting specified quotas. Operate a standard or high-speed industrial sewing machine.

Qualification

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Industrial Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. The ability to operate standard and industrial sewing machines. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Operates a standard or high-speed industrial sewing machine to perform a number of operations in the manufacture of items for chemical protective clothing. Production line operators use skill in manipulating material requiring a combination of techniques or joining of major components with curved edges. Operations performed must conform to established time standards and standards of fit. Operators sit for long periods with continual movement of hands, arms and fingers in placing items in position and sewing. Workers frequently lift bomb, shells, and rocket casings, power charges, or other objects weighting 30 to 40 pounds. Workers frequently lift and carry cartons, materials, supplies and equipment weighing up to twenty pounds and may occasionally handle items weighing up to fifty pounds. Some assignments require lifting about 60 pounds at a production rate pace determined by line speed/engineering standards. May pull or push hand trucks weighting several hundred pounds. The work requires sitting, walking, bending, reaching, crouching, and long periods of standing. Endurance and eye-hand coordination are required to work at a steady pace and rhythm for long periods. Workers perform work on hard surfaces and in work areas requiring them to stand, stoop, bend, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods. Hand-trucks, dollies and other workers are available for assistance with heavier items. Working conditions: Work is performed inside in well lighted and ventilated areas. Often these areas are noisy because of numerous machines are operating at one time. Operators are subject to possible needle puncture and minor thread cuts. Work is both inside and outside. The worker may occasionally work inside areas that are drafty. The nature of the work is dirty, dusty, greasy, and the area may be noisy. Workers are required to stand on floors made of concrete for long periods of time. Operators must wear protective clothing overalls, safety shoes, respirators, protective masks, and goggles on assignments. They are frequently exposed to moisture and wet floors as a result of cleanup operations in work areas. They are exposed to fumes from acid, solvents, other industrial type of chemicals, and explosives. They are exposed to the possibility of explosion and flash fire. There is a chance for injuries ranging from loss of life or limbs to burns, cuts, bruises, sprains, and nausea. There is a slight danger of contact dermatitis involved with handling used protective and safety equipment. The worker is occasionally required to wear respiratory protective equipment and TAP clothing.
