Job summary

You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL) in the MAJOR TEST PROGRAMS DIVISION within the MAJOR TEST PROGRAMS AND INDUSTRIAL SUPPORT DEPARTMENT of NSWC PHILA DIV. The Secretary of Defense has ordered a department-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the DoD hiring freeze. Offers of employment related to this vacancy announcement will not be executed until the position has an approved exemption.

Major duties

You will serve as a mechanical engineering technician responsible for planning and performing maintenance actions and conducting test and evaluation at the component and system level. You will review and approve system technical documentation and implement and support installation of engineering change proposals at a Land Based Engineering Site (LBES). You will provide engine and associated LBES equipment assembly and disassembly support. You will be responsible for planning and performing non-routine assignments in the testing, installation, operating, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, development, and documentation of assigned Machinery and Auxiliary Systems and Equipment. You will participate in planning and conduct and monitor test and evaluation of systems and equipment and will make recommendations for procurement and integration of new types of test equipment. You will conduct test and evaluation of ship equipment machinery control systems and associated auxiliary systems to analyze equipment performance with the assistance of senior engineers and technicians.

Qualification

GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-08) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector applying a wide range of technical engineering principles to assemble, test, troubleshoot or repair systems or equipment related to ship propulsion and associated auxiliary systems. GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector applying technical engineering principles to assist in the assembly, testing, troubleshooting or repair systems or equipment related to ship propulsion and associated auxiliary systems. Education

The following education may be substituted for specialized experience at the GS-09: Master's (or equivalent graduate degree such as LL.B. or J.D. as specified in qualification standards or individual occupational requirements) in a course of study that directly reflects the job-related KSAs/competencies necessary to satisfy the minimum qualifications and perform the duties of the position, OR 2 academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education in a course of study that directly reflects the job-related KSAs/competencies necessary to satisfy the minimum qualifications and perform the duties of the position. The following education may be substituted for specialized experience at the GS-07: 1 academic year of graduate education (or law school, as specified in qualification standards or individual occupational requirements) in a course of study that directly reflects the job-related KSAs/competencies necessary to satisfy the minimum qualifications and perform the duties of the position.
