Job summary

You will serve as a ELECTRONICS MECHANIC in the Commander, Navy Region Northwest (CNRNW) of NAVBASE KITSAP SILVERDALE WA.

Major duties

You will set up and operate computer controlled automatic test equipment to test and troubleshoot various components and assemblies of electronic equipment. You will perform, report and document preventative maintenance as prescribed and scheduled by Navy Maintenance and Material Management (3M). You will perform corrective or preventative maintenance on vessel propulsion system electronics, including but not limited to engines, marine gears and water jets. You will provide technical assistance and instruction and may act as advisor or technical point of contact for contracted work as directed by the supervisor.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Makes preliminary visual inspection and performs operation test to determine components causing malfunctions or invalid readings; 2) Sets up and operates computer controlled automatic test equipment to test and troubleshoot various components and assemblies of electronic equipment; 3) Prepares reports on electrical equipment repairs and test; 4) Installs and applies tests and repairs. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. There is no education requirements for this position. Additional Information (Continued): Physical Demands Work may require frequent lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 50 pounds. Required to lift and carry items weighing more than 50 pounds with the help of material handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Work may require (assisted or unassisted) standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping, climbing and working in confined or floating spaces. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops, and microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components. Working Environment Work is typically performed in well-lighted, cooled, and ventilated areas. The incumbent may be assigned to work areas where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. These agents may include, but are not limited to: fumes, dust, noise, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, chemicals, etc. To ensure employee safety and health, the command maintains personnel protection programs consistent with applicable laws and regulations. These programs may include engineering controls, training, work procedures, use of personnel protective equipment, and medical surveillance. As part of the medical surveillance programs, the incumbent may be required to take medical examinations to assess his/her medical qualifications for duty involving work with these agents. Safety Incumbent is responsible for following all established safety rules and requirements. Incumbent is responsible to keep informed of all safety and health requirements pertinent to his/her work assignments, and to ensure all applicable safety equipment is available for each task. Incumbent is responsible for taking prompt corrective action to abate hazardous workplace conditions.
