Major duties

You will work with other engineering disciplines to design and develop PHAROS embedded technology from Analysis of Alternatives (AoA) through final design and testing. You will respond with urgency and accuracy to evolving electrical engineering needs in order to balance aggressive developmental schedules while ensuring technical rigor objectives are met. You will utilize industrial/military standards for circuit component selection and design, understand environmental protection and protect against electromagnetic interference. You will understand (EMI/EMC) testing, reliability analysis, and safety design, knowledge of PCB prototyping methods and equipment to rapidly test design concepts, and be able to work closely with Software Engineers. You will use diagnostic equipment and tools to analyze and solve problems across a wide range of requirements while supporting the design and leadership team. You will manage and execute tasks in a time-contained environment by prototyping and evaluating new designs and materials/concepts, provide advice on specific technical aspects of the systems, and use innovative thinking to solve complex problems. You will understand the interactions of electrical components within a system, demonstrating the ability to use circuit design and simulation tools to develop and evaluate Electrical Engineering solutions. You will apply best practices to the design, development, and the production of printed circuit boards, RF receivers and antennas, power conversion systems, and power generation/electro-mechanical interfaces on host platform systems. You will conduct research, development, test, and integration of custom embedded systems and special communications capabilities. You will contribute to the development of rapid engineering solutions to emergent non-conventional threats, specializing in turning high level requirements into engineering designs that integrate microelectronics with novel fabrication techniques. You will design and develop electrical circuits, RF receivers, and miniature antenna designs with minimal oversight and guidance, perform analog/digital circuit design, embedded microcontroller design, and compact antenna design and integration. You will perform modeling of circuits, schematic capture, PCB layout, and circuit assembly / fabrication techniques. You will support integration and testing of developed products to ensure reliable functionality. You will work with Project Lead(s) to analyze and refine requirements, perform alternative solutions by research and investigation, and identify technical risks. You will develop prototypes (in concert with technicians, as necessary) to prove out prototype designs; utilize established and creative/novel rapid prototyping techniques and equipment. You will coordinate with mechanical engineers regarding the integration of designs into customized mechanical packages. You will develop documentation of design solutions and adhere to established configuration management processes. You will evaluate processes and procedures to identify efficiencies and enhance solutions by increasing quality, reducing cost, and/or increasing technical performance. You will provide peer review of colleague designs.

Qualification

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band, ND-03 (GS-09/11 equivalency), in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: As a professional engineer with several years of experience in PCB design, electrical component selection, development and engineering processes along with RF/Antenna experience. Examples of qualifying experience may include: Proficiency in testing, engineering processes, embedded technologies, PCB schematic layouts. Designing and evaluating electrical engineering hardware and PCB development to meet program or user needs. Skilled at applying principles, methods, and procedures to integrate and optimize Electrical Engineering hardware designs into other program components Skilled at using diagnostic equipment and tools to analyze and solve problems during the engineering process Understanding the interactions of electrical components within a system, demonstrating the ability to use circuit design and simulation tools to develop and evaluate Electrical Engineering solutions. Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/ All Professional Engineering Positions, 08XX Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Professional Engineering Series (08XX) - Degree: A professional engineering degree from an ABET-accredited college or university; OR a degree with curriculum in differential and integral calculus, with additional courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics; or electronics; OR Professional Engineering Series (08XX) - Substitution of Education/Experience: A combination of education and experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering; and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: (a) professional registration, (b) evidence of successfully passing the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination; (c) successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified above; or (d) successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering provided that it included at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.
