About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.

Major duties

You will be responsible for leading United State Military Academy Library’s overall performance to meet the academy's operational and future needs. Collaborating with faculty and staff to empower cadets with the skills of information fluency, to engage in impactful scholarship while developing into lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and effective leaders. Facilitating access to, and maintaining outstanding academic information resources designed to support the curriculum. You will insure that library services and collections aligns with the academy's curriculum while addressing the academic needs of the cadets, faculty, and staff. Working with donors in partnership with the Department of Academy Advancement and the Association of Graduates to accept gifts to the USMA Library on behalf of the Superintendent. Overseeing the USMA Archives, an Affiliated Archive of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), which constitutes Record Group 404. Delivering timely and effective digital and place-based services to support study, scholarship, and intellectual development. Serving as administrative faculty and teaching a course within the appropriate academic discipline of specialty.

Who May Apply: U.S. Citizens This is a full-time term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 3 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term. As a term employee you will be eligible for medical insurance, life insurance, retirement dental and vision. You will be eligible to earn annual leave and sick leave. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS / KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be evaluated on the following: 1) Academic Accomplishment (Master's preferred) in Library (M.L.S) or information Science (M.L.I.S) or a related field; 2) Ability to teach courses within the appropriate academic discipline of specialty; 3) Demonstrated ability to lead and manage library operations, to include staff supervision, strategic planning, budgeting, supporting cadets, and managing building operations; 4) Ability to engage in service activities at the institution and national levels; 5) Demonstrated understanding of the current landscape of higher education and libraries, including knowledge of rapidly evolving technology tools and digital literacies such as Generative AI and AI literacy.
