Major duties

You will serve as an Antenna Mechanic Helper, Telecommunication Department in Cutler, Maine. You will assist on jobs such as repairing antenna panels, retensioning guy wires, repairing grounding system components and sea terminals, and performing maintenance and repairs on VLF bushings and, electronic components. You will help repair and maintain the over 50 million dollars VIF antenna network consisting of 26-800 to 980 foot steel towers. You will help in continuous visual inspection, looking for cables out of place, structural damage, and electrical wiring. You will help in inspecting and repairing guy anchor grounds, checking the guy tension, and checking tower profile. You will help replace defective jumpers in the cross arm section, inspect bushings, inspect and repair helix coil, variometers, inspect and repair helix house wood structures, inspect and repair helix house ground connections. You will change oil in gear boxes, grease hoist spindles, grease hoist, inspect hoist drums and changes gear lubricant. You will perform other duties as assigned.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO WORK WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION such as: Ability to assist in the repair and maintenance of the VLF antenna network; annual inspection programs, changing oil in gear boxes, grease sheaves on top of towers, etc. Ability to climb up to 980 feet in height while carrying his trade tools. Ability to use small hand tools, power assist equipment, and motor vehicle equipment. Ability to perform work on the towers where only spot checks of work accomplishment will be made due to the difficulty of climbing towers.
