About the Position: The Air and Missile Defense Specialist, GS-0301-12, serves as an action officer within the Headquarters US European Command (HQ EUCOM) Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) Division and the Joint Operations Center (JOC) with duties assigned to the Plans and Operations Center. The primary duties of this position are to assist with operations, crisis planning, and execution of IAMD operations within the command area of responsibility (AOR).

Major duties

Provide technical support for the development of USEUCOM IAMD operational execution. Serve as the main source of information on the employment, execution, and operations of IAMD situational awareness systems. Monitor and alert the USEUCOM JOC watch floor of possible missile engagements and/or threats. Develop missile defense designs in support of assigned/contingency missions or plans IAW established guidelines and policies. Monitor the IAMD systems, architecture and related support equipment to detect, diagnose and repair system malfunctions or take corrective action due to operator error. Coach, teach, train and mentor JOC watch personnel in the USEUCOM JOC in IAMD system operating tactics, techniques, and procedures, maintenance procedures, asset management and use and care of support equipment. Assist the JOC and USEUCOM staff in the coordination of IAMD exercises, training, tests, and operational activities to ensure mission objectives and requirements are met. Analyze operations and plans, prepare and present technical and analytical briefings utilizing off the shelf programs (i.e., Microsoft Power Point), utilize USEUCOM automated project management tools, and develop multimedia presentations.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
