Roles and Responsibilities:

BROAD FUNCTION:

Perform layout, set-up and weld on a variety of aircraft engine component parts and assemblies.

  • Working from planning or verbal instructions, prints or sketches.
  • Fabricate, repair or rework using all required welding and cutting processes which may include manual arc processes (GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, TIG) semi-automated weld processes (GTAW, PAW, LW, EBW,), machine weld processes (RSW, Dabber,) and oxyacetylene welding.
  • In addition, may use oxyacetylene cutting, plasma cutting, flame brazing/soldering, TIG brazing and arc brazing. Use argon chambers and gas back-ups.
  • Fabricate heat sinks and related items to perform individual weld operations.
  • Using file, bench grinders, hand grinders, etc., to perform welding preparation, defect removal and manual dimensional restoration.
  • Achieve certification on required processes.
  • Ability to bench, planish, peen, roll, forge, stretch/shrink to restore dimensional and structural integrity on various engine hardware.
  • Use all types of measuring instruments.
  • Perform fluorescent dye penetrant as required, maintain associated paperwork, work to required levels of quality and efficiency.
  • Direct or train others and perform related duties as required.
  • Interact with engineers with the design of tooling and repair process on repair development projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience (and/or schooling) in various types of welding and fabrication.
  • Experience working from prints, sketches, planning or verbal instructions, and weld a variety of parts and assemblies.
  • Experience fabricating, repairing or re-working using processes listed above; use of argon chambers and gas back-ups.
  • Proficiency in the fabrication of heat sinks and related items for performing individual weld operations
  • Experience reading various measuring instruments, including calipers and micrometers
  • Must certify within 8 hours per base material group as required and periodic certification thereafter
  • Demonstrated ability to use files, bench grinders, and various hand and power tools, etc. to restore areas repaired to required dimensions
  • Must be able to pass welding skills demonstration, and hands on benching test
  • Minimum of 3 years GTAW welding experience (verifiable)
  • Experience operating material handling and lifting devices, including ability to obtain forklift license as required.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with fluorescent dye penetrant. (1 point)
  • Weld schooling certificate (1 point)
  • Previous welding and fabrication experience on aircraft hardware. (3 points)
  • Previous held weld certification(s) in: corrosive resistant and heat resistant ferrous alloys, nickel base alloys, cobalt
  • base alloys, aluminum alloys, and titanium alloys. (4 points)
  • Five years or more verified GTAW experience (1 points)
  • Ten years or more verified GTAW experience (3 points)
