SAIC is seeking a VMware Engineer to support the Department of State (DoS) under the Vanguard 2.2.1 contract. The Vanguard program delivers integrated systems, cybersecurity, and infrastructure support for the DoS Diplomatic Technology (DT) program. The DT program enables the Department to execute its foreign policy mission by providing enterprise architecture, engineering, operations, and maintenance services across data centers, compute, storage, networks, security, and enterprise applications.

The selected candidate will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of enterprise virtualization solutions leveraging VMware and enterprise storage technologies. This role requires evaluating emerging technologies and integrating innovative solutions to enhance performance, security, and cost efficiency in support of the Department’s modernization initiatives.

This role is onsite in Springfield, VA and may require some local travel. Note: This position is expected to transition to Washington, DC in the future; candidates must be willing to support this relocation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a member of the DoS PMD Infrastructure team supporting enterprise virtualization platforms 
  • Design, implement, and maintain VMware-based solutions (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter) 
  • Lead virtualization architecture efforts, including capacity planning, performance tuning, and high availability configurations 
  • Deploy and configure new data center infrastructure, including rack and stack of hardware 
  • Collaborate with network engineers to design and configure virtual networking (vSwitches, distributed switches, VLANs) 
  • Administer and support enterprise storage solutions (Dell/EMC or equivalent) in virtualized environments 
  • Provision, manage, and patch virtual machines and supporting infrastructure 
  • Troubleshoot complex system, storage, and virtualization issues across multi-tier environments 
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, diagrams, SOPs, and operational procedures 
  • Support continuous improvement and modernization initiatives, including automation and cloud integration where applicable 

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors and fourteen (14) years or more experience; Masters and twelve (12) years or more experience; may accept additional experience in lieu of degree
  • Red Hat Linux and RHEL Satellite Server
  • Senior-level knowledge of VMWare and vSphere design, integration, and deployment
  • Knowledge or training on VMware and ESX 7.0+ deployment, configuration, and maintenance
  • Windows engineer or administrator experience (Active Directory, GPOs, and PowerShell scripting)
  • Experience leading system integration projects as the technical lead
  • Experience working with customers to capture/document requirements

Required Clearance:

  • US Citizenship
  • Active Top Secret clearance

Target salary range: $160,001 - $200,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
