JOB SUMMARY

Performs electrical repairs and maintenance to temporary service equipment. Installs and removes temporary service equipment on board ships and in the yard. Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.



QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS

This position requires a trade school certificate in electrical training or equivalent work experience performing electrical repair and equipment operation and basic mechanical skills. Must have two years marine electrical experience and/or four years electrical experience. Must be able to pass NASSCO assessments or partake in a training program. Must be able to read and troubleshoot equipment and systems from schematics, diagrams, and other manufacturers documentation. Must be trained in energy recognition, electrical safety protection equipment, and lockout/tag-out procedures. Must have ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and be able to work any shift. Must be able to understand written and verbal instructions, hear warning signals, and read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations, and warnings.



ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS

1. Inspect, set up, and remove equipment to ensure safe and reliable operations.
2. Perform equipment services and repairs using the specified tools and test equipment.
3. Fill out various required reports and documentation, such as material request sheets and log books.
4. Set up, test, repair, and remove equipment such as blowers, power panels, transformers, cables, air and gas manifolds and hoses, back-flow preventers, pressure regulators, and ventilation ducting used for temporary services.
5. Set up, inspect, and test public address and alarm systems.
6. Set up and operate portable generators and fire pumps for docking / undocking.
7. Inspect, chlorinate, install and remove portable water hoses.
8. Install and remove CHT hoses from ships and barges.
9. Interface with managers and other trade employees to identify needed services.
10. Assist in other trade work within the Dept.
11. Participate in area clean ups on board ships and in other work areas.
12. Participate in company Safety and Continuous Improvement programs.
13. Other tasks may be assigned relevant to the trade.



MATERIALS, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, WORK AIDS

Tools and work aids such as hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, meters and megohmeters, hand-trucks, lifts, man lifts, forklifts, scissor lifts, crimpers, cable cutters, and bench vises. Personal protective equipment required.


PHYSICAL/MENTAL INVOLVEMENT


Works in all areas of the shipyard and on board ships requiring repetitive or prolonged walking, climbing, standing, balancing, handling, reaching, pushing/pulling, bending, stooping/crouching, kneeling, reclining, sitting, seeing, hearing, and manual and finger dexterity. Must be able to to regularly lift/carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted. Must be able to reason and make judgements. Must be able to work in full bodied positions. Must be able to maintain general safety awareness by hearing warning signals, reading and comprehending safety instructions, and avoid hazards commonly present in an employees work area.



MARGINAL JOB TASKS

Perform housekeeping, including sweeping, in all work areas. Attend safety, quality, and/or process improvement meetings as required.



ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

Works outdoors more than 50% of the time with constant exposure to wind, wet, and humid conditions. Exposure to fumes, odors, dust, gases, various climates and temperatures, and low ventilation conditions, all of which may cause discomfort and/or respiratory difficulties. Exposure to constantly moving machines and mechanical parts and high levels of constant noise.





PAYSCALE:
$34.43- $37.78


This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the hourly range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
