Staff Electrical Quality Engineer (R3530)

Dallas, Texas
Full Time On-site

Summary

Job Description

Are you an experienced electrical or quality engineer driven to uncover the root causes of complex PCBA and electrical issues? Do you thrive in a production environment where technical depth, precision, and collaboration directly influence mission success? Join Shield AI to lead investigations that strengthen the performance and reliability of the systems protecting service members around the world.

What You'll Do:

  • Design & Manufacturing Support
  • Provide DFM/DFT feedback to design engineering to mitigate manufacturing and electrical test escapes.
Oversee New Product Introduction (NPI) with Electrical Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Hardware Test, and Supplier Development teams to ensure smooth production integration and robust testing coverage.
  • Root Cause & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead initial root cause analysis (RCA) for PCBA and electrical issues detected in production—driving containment, fault isolation, and data-backed corrective actions.
Collaborate with Production, Hardware Test, Electrical Engineering, and Supplier Development Engineering to identify systemic issues and improve product and supplier performance.
Maintain RCA documentation and non-conformance records in the Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring compliance with AS9100 and ISO9001 standards.
  • Avionics Quality Ownership
  • Own end-to-end quality for avionics electronics and harnesses—from assembly through aircraft acceptance test.
Define inspection steps, acceptance criteria, and manufacturing quality controls for PCB/PCBA electrical assemblies and harnesses.
Report recurring issues and lessons learned during design reviews to prevent repeat failures.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or related Engineering field.
  • 5+ years of experience performing RCA and corrective actions for PCBA/electrical hardware in production or test environments.
  • Strong understanding of schematics, PCB layouts, and circuit diagnostics.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic test and measurement equipment.
  • Familiarity with QMS processes, structured problem-solving, and technical documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or related Engineering.
  • Experience designing and troubleshooting PCBAs and developing functional test plans.
  • Working knowledge of Python or C/C++ for test automation and data analysis.
  • Proficiency with advanced test instruments (oscilloscope, spectrum/network analyzer, SMU, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of electronics reliability, failure mechanisms, and metrology.
  • Experience with environmental testing (HALT/HASS, thermal, vibration, TVAC).
  • Background in Aerospace, Defense, or Automotive environments using Lean/Six Sigma methods.
  • Proven ability to work effectively across production, test, and supplier engineering functions.

About Shield AI

Shield AI

Shield AI is a venture-backed defense technology company specializing in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and next-generation military aviation. Founded in 2015 and headquartered in San Diego, the company is focused on building advanced software and hardware solutions that enable military forces to operate effectively in the most contested, denied, and high-risk environments. Its technologies are designed to function where traditional systems fail—particularly in GPS-denied, communications-disrupted, and highly dynamic combat scenarios.

At the core of Shield AI’s innovation is its emphasis on software-driven autonomy. Rather than relying on remote human operators, the company develops AI-powered “pilots” capable of independently navigating complex missions, making real-time decisions, and executing objectives with speed and precision. This approach allows autonomous systems to operate with greater resilience, reduced latency, and significantly enhanced survivability in modern warfare environments.

Its mission is to protect service members and civilians through intelligent, autonomous systems. This mission drives the company’s commitment to reducing human risk on the battlefield while expanding the operational reach and effectiveness of defense forces. By combining cutting-edge artificial intelligence with deep operational insight, Shield AI is helping to redefine how military missions are planned, executed, and sustained in the era of autonomous warfare.
