Job summary

Boeing is seeking an experienced Senior IT Release Train Engineer (RTE) to lead and drive Agile Release Trains (ARTs) responsible for delivering large-scale enterprise software, platform, and cloud solutions. The Senior RTE will act as a servant leader and coach, orchestrating program-level planning and execution, optimizing flow of value, ensuring alignment with business strategy, and embedding DevOps and compliance practices across teams in a highly regulated aerospace environment.

Preferred candidate to be located in St. Louis, MO but will consider candidates in Chicago, Seattle, Southern California, or Dallas, TX areas.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead planning and execution of Program Increments (PI), including PI planning events, system demos, Inspect & Adapt workshops, and cross-team synchronization.

  • Serve as the primary facilitator and coach for one or more ARTs, guiding Scrum Masters, Product Management, system architects, and engineering teams to achieve predictable, high-quality outcomes.

  • Manage program-level backlog, dependencies, risks, and impediments; facilitate resolution and escalation as needed.

  • Drive continuous delivery and DevOps practices—work with platform, QA, security, and operations teams to improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, release orchestration, and deployment automation.

  • Establish and track program-level KPIs (predictability, throughput, lead time, quality metrics) and use metrics to drive continuous improvement.

  • Coordinate release governance, change control, and compliance activities to meet Boeing policies, cybersecurity requirements, and applicable regulatory frameworks.

  • Align technical strategy and architectural runway with business priorities in collaboration with architects and engineering leadership.

  • Mentor and develop Agile practitioners (Scrum Masters, Product Owners, team members) and promote a culture of relentless improvement and learning.

  • Facilitate stakeholder communication—provide transparency to senior leadership, product sponsors, and external partners on program status, risks, and mitigations.

  • Support portfolio and program-level planning, budget considerations, and resource optimization.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills)

  • 6+ years of experience in software delivery, program management, or Agile roles, with at least 3 years in Release Train Engineer, Scrum Master, Program Manager, or equivalent positions leading multi-team deliveries.

  • Deep understanding of Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban) and experience with scaling frameworks such as SAFe, LeSS, or equivalent.

  • Proven experience facilitating PI planning, system demos, and cross-team curatorship, professional development, and access to industry certifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Business, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 9+ years of experience in software delivery, program management, or Agile roles, with at least 3 years in Release Train Engineer, Scrum

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary pay range:

St. Louis - $141,300 - $181,000

Seattle/Chicago/SoCal/Dallas - $151,200 - $194,000
