Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector is hiring a Mass Properties Sr Principal Engineer to join our Vehicle Engineering team in Melbourne, Florida.

This position performs mass properties functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, and mass properties requirements allocation studies to translate customer, product or derived mass properties requirements into hardware and software specification requirements. Analyzes, researches and tests system hardware and conditions for optimal mass properties system solutions. Tools utilized may include solid modeling tools, database tools and standard office applications.
 

This individual will contribute to the Mass Properties team supporting the achievement of program requirements. Specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the implementation of a Mass Properties Management and Control Program.

  • Accurate estimating and optimizing mass properties to achieve vehicle performance and fulfill weight-based program metrics.

  • Establishing specifications and design target weights.

  • Support the maintenance of the Mass Properties accounting and reporting systems to inform the customer and management of current and projected mass properties trends.

  • Providing mass properties data for cost analyses and vehicle design and analysis.

  • Evaluating subcontractor proposals, interacting with and overseeing subcontractor mass properties management and control.

  • Reviewing drawings to achieve mass properties management and control.

  • Measuring/weighing vehicle and/or components to increase vehicle weight estimate accuracy.

  • Providing mass properties data in support of operational flight manual.

  • You may be required to attend or present at internal program, customer and/or supplier technical exchange meetings and/or formal program milestone reviews to provide and/or obtain progress status updates.

  • Thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels. Candidates must be self-starters capable of flourishing in an environment with minimal direction.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must possess a Bachelor of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 8 years of relevant engineering experience; OR Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of relevant experience

  • Must have an active In-Scope DoD Secret clearance.

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Active In-Scope DoD Top Secret clearance.

  • Must have experience with mass property and weight and balance analysis.

  • Must be familiar with Society of Allied Weight Engineers RP 7 & 8


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Aircraft Weight and Balance Certification

  • Automated Weight and Balance System (AWBS) experience

  • Experience in vehicle design and manufacturing techniques

  • Siemens NX or CATIA proficiency

  • Familiarity with electrical harness weight estimation and calculation

  • Familiarity with a Common Product Lifecycle Management system such as SmarTeam or Teamcenter

  • Be able to be the lead mass properties engineer on a given program

  • Inertia calculations and materials properties experience

  • Create Estimated, Calculated, Actual and Status reports

  • Be a lead mass properties engineer on a flight test team          

Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
