Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Software Engineering Manager 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Palmdale, California or Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

You will be the product owner of a product team collaborating across multi-disciplinary teams, such as, Systems Engineering, Real-time & Embedded Software, Test Automation, DevOps, and Systems Test, in an Agile software development environment.  You will oversee and review system capabilities that resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls. 


Responsibilities:  

  • The successful candidate has experience with development, modification and maintain customized or standardized embedded Mission Systems applications using software engineering best practices and standards

  • Experience in the full life-cycle of software development, to include requirements development, modeling and design, application development, unit to CSCI testing, integration, formal system testing, release, installation, and maintenance

  • Differentiating characteristics include demonstrated leadership, teamwork capabilities, excellent oral and written communications skills, and strong interpersonal communication skills 

  • Experience in successfully improving organization AND program processes and procedures

Contingency:  Requires minimum active DoD Secret (or higher) level clearance and active program access (PAR) before start.

Basic Qualifications

  • Must either have a Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field AND 8 years of related professional/military experience that includes a background in software development, OR a Master’s degree Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field AND 6 years of related professional/military experience OR a PhD Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field and 4 years of experience that includes a background in software development

  • Demonstrated professional experience with an Agile Framework within the last 3 years

  • Demonstrated professional experience implementing software and scripts in one or more Object Oriented Programming languages:  C++, scripts in C, AND/OR Python

  • Demonstrated professional experience with software change control, change management, and CI/CD tools such as not limited to: GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, and/or Atlassian tool suite

  • Demonstrated Professional Experience with at least one of the following Cloud technologies and service providers: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft (MS) Azure, OR Google Cloud within the last 3 years

  • Active in-Scope, DoD Secret clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance.

  • Start date is contingent upon the ability to obtain special program access; and required to maintain both an active DoD clearance and PAR

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated professional leadership experience

  • Experience in software architecture

  • Experience with virtual machines and virtual networks: VMware, Hyper-V, VPC, NSX-T, and/or NSX-V

  • Experience with Joint Simulation Environment (JSE), Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS), or High-level Architecture within 3 years

  • Knowledge and experience with simulated threat environments, such as, AFSIM or NGTS and Full-Motion Flight Training Systems within the last 3 years

  • Experience with developing software for safety critical embedded systems

  • Familiarity with software requirements tools such as DOORS and Rational Rhapsody

  • Ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.

  • Demonstrated ability to build a diverse and inclusive team with engagement

  • Demonstrated mentoring and coaching skills, and excellent 2-way communication skills (upward and downward)

  • Experience leading a team of 12 employees with a record of on-time performance

  • Time management and organizational skills to prioritize across concurrent program and functional responsibilities

  • Experience with task or resource planning, development of Basis of Estimates (BOEs), Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) and IFC planning

Primary Level Salary Range: $131,800.00 - $241,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
