The Northrop Grumman Military Internship Program (NG-MIP) is an approved SkillBridge Program under Dept. of Defense Instruction 1322.29 . NG-MIP is an opportunity for transitioning service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through an individual internship during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. The Northrop Grumman Military Internship Program is open to all ranks and experience levels. SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from Northrop Grumman, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members. 

Responsibilities for this internship position are: 

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NGC) has developed the Northrop Grumman – Military Internship Program (DoD SKillbridge) utilizing the DoDI guidance for Skillbridge. During this program the service member will be on-site at his or her host company performing an individual internship in an entry to mid-level career type role. The service member will be on the job training supporting a work schedule equivalent to 40hrs per week. Outlined below are the Goals, Objectives, and Outcomes for the program. 

Goals – Provide transitioning service members fellowship-style job skills training during the last portion(s) of their military commitment. This program is specifically designed to offer internships that result in the potential to transition to a full-time opportunity as the conclusion of the training. Interns will serve as a pipeline for high-speed, motivated military candidates into NGC.

Objectives - Service Members who complete the Intern program will be highly trained, capable, future employees that align to the specific needs of the organization and are prepared to meet the NG mission “Defining Possible” on Day 1. This program provides a comprehensive internship experience including professional development, networking with leadership, and training specifically focused on NG leadership principles, company history, customer/stakeholder engagement, product and service overview, and core job responsibilities.

DoD SkillBridge Eligibility: 

  • Has served at least 180 days on active duty

  • Is within 12 months of separation or retirement

  • Will receive an honorable discharge

  • Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS

  • Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months

  • Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to start of internship.

Northrop Grumman Space Systems - Propulsion Systems Business Unit, Promontory Utah is seeking a Principal Industrial Security Analyst – Physical Security who will have shared responsibility for the Physical Security program for Propulsion Systems (Promontory, Clearfield, Magna and Copper Crossing locations). The physical security officer will support internal and external customers, have exposure to classified and sensitive unclassified information, and responsibility for various compliance programs necessitating considerable use of tact, diplomacy and discretion.

Candidate will have responsibilities within BATF, DHS, AA&E and Global Trade Compliance (US Customs & Border Patrol) programs to ensure protection of personnel and company resources.  Shared daily physical security responsibilities include involvement in and oversight of the contract security team; plant lock/key programs; site automated access control systems; security cameras; emergency and mass notification systems; security alarm systems; physical construction/mods and maintenance for classified areas.  Candidate will also be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and verifying information in various company and government security related databases to ensure they are up to date and procedural/regulatory requirements are met; scheduling and conducting meetings and conferences, and creating/maintaining compliance inspection files.


Job Description:

  • Provide daily oversight of contract security force and the 911 emergency system and notification process for other site emergency responders (fire/medical/environmental)
  • Perform physical security actions to ensure compliance with ATF, DHS, and DoD directives
  • Maintain event notification systems/processes for weather and emergency events
  • Assist with maintenance of the access control system (Lenel) and security camera system
  • Coordinate physical security for special events; Local law enforcement coordination
  • Assist with on-site inspections required by government regulations
  • Conduct/oversee investigations and file required reports
  • Review, evaluate, and recommend changes to post orders for contract security team, and policies/procedures for employees and resident contractors.
  • Other security related duties as assigned

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Understanding of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Chemical Facilities Antiterrorism Standards (CFATS) and assessments
  • Understanding of Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (BATF) directives, employee possessor screening, licensing and assessments. 
  • Understanding of and experience with DoD 5100.76, Physical Security of Sensitive Conventional Arms, Ammunition & Explosives (AA&E)
  • Understanding of and experience with Global Trade Compliance (US Customs & Border Patrol) programs
  • Understanding of and application of DMP alarm systems and the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) intrusion detection standards and certification process. 
  • Experience in emergency response situations
  • Experience in Emergency Management
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Database Management Skills
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills to include working with senior leaders/managers, customers, employees, and security personnel
  • Excellent organizational interpersonal communication skills including report writing and presentations
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Desire to learn and qualify to perform within the other security disciplines (Program & Personnel Security).

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree and 6 years relevant experience, or 10 years directly relevant experience
  • Top Secret security clearance (Secret clearance required to start – must be eligible to receive and maintain Top Secret clearance level as a condition of continued employment)

Additional Information:

Position may be filled at a lower level, depending on the candidate’s experience.  Minimum qualification for ISA-3 is Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of experience (Experience in lieu of a degree (10 years) may be considered). 

Minimum qualification for ISA-2 is Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience (Experience in lieu of a degree (7 years) may be considered). 

Primary Level Salary Range: $81,400.00 - $122,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
