Senior Robotics Technician

San Francesco, CA
Full Time On-site

Summary

Job Description

About Us

Our mission is to create advanced robots that can operate in complex environments, reducing human risk in conflict zones and enhancing efficiency in labor-intensive industries. We are on the lookout for extraordinary engineers and scientists to join our team. Your previous experience in robotics isn't a prerequisite — it's your talent and determination that truly count. We expect that many of our team members will bring diverse perspectives from various industries and fields. We are looking for individuals with a proven record of exceptional ability and a history of creating things that work.

Our Culture

We like to be frank and honest about who we are, so that people can decide for themselves if this is a culture they resonate with.

Who Should Join

  • You like working in person with a team in San Francisco.
  • You deeply believe that this is the most important mission for humanity and needs to happen yesterday.
  • You are highly technical - regardless of the role you are in. We are building technology; you need to understand technology well.
  • You care about aesthetics and design inside out. If it's not the best product ever, it bothers you, and you need to “fix” it.
  • You don't need someone to motivate you; you get things done.

Why We Are Hiring for This Role:

  • Assemble and test robotic subsystems and full systems with precision and attention to detail.
  • Collaborate with engineers to interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and assembly instructions.
  • Provide feedback on build challenges and suggest process improvements or design changes.
  • Assist with documentation, including work instructions, BOMs, and test procedures.
  • Support rapid prototyping, iteration, and hardware validation efforts.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues during the build process; help root out causes and propose solutions.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe assembly and test environment.
  • Partner with supply chain and operations teams to evaluate components and materials.

What Kind of Person We Are Looking For:

  • 3-5+ years hands-on experience assembling electromechanical systems
  • Experience troubleshooting / debugging an electromechanical system
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electrical tools (e.g., soldering irons, torque drivers, multimeters).
  • Ability to read technical drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • Familiarity with hardware testing and validation processes
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communicator and team collaborator.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and eager to contribute beyond the bench.
  • Associate degree required; a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field is a plus.
  • Prior experience building robots or complex hardware systems in school, labs, or internships is a plus.
  • Exposure to CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Onshape) or version control systems is a plus.
  • Experience with robotics hardware: actuators, sensors, PCBs, etc. is a plus.

Benefits

We provide market standard benefits (health, vision, dental, 401k, etc.). Join us for the culture and the mission, not for the benefits.

Salary

The annual compensation is expected to be between $115,000 - $140,000. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.

About Foundation

Foundation

Foundation

Foundation operates a B2B robotics-as-a-service (RaaS) model targeting industrial manufacturers and defense customers. Instead of selling robots outright, the company provides fleets of humanoid robots through service contracts. This structure enables customers to replace high-turnover human workers without incurring upfront capital expenditures.

Foundation develops autonomous humanoid robots for unstructured industrial and defense environments, eliminating the need for facility modifications. Its primary product, the Phantom MK1, measures 5’9″ in height, weighs 176 pounds, and supports payloads of up to 44 pounds while achieving a walking speed of 1.7 meters per second.

The company focuses on automating tasks with annual worker attrition rates approaching 100%, particularly those that are dangerous or highly repetitive. This approach allows Foundation to deliver measurable value to customers while collecting operational data to refine its AI models.
