Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is currently seeking a Senior Principal Systems Engineer for our Charlotteville, Virginia or Sykesville, Maryland locations to lead our new Micro Reactor Control efforts. The incumbent should be knowledgeable in reactivity controls and is preferred to have experience in MATLAB/Simulink development for nuclear power plant applications. Must have nuclear operational plant experience. Will be part of a dynamic, cutting-edge design team by characterizing reactor and power conversion system behavior in terms of capabilities, constraints, and interactions with other systems. This engineer will be responsible for the steady state and transient analyses of the reactor, the power conversion cycle, as well as its support systems.
What You’ll Get to Do:
Work with the Discipline Lead and System Engineers to develop analysis workflows and document them in an analysis plan in accordance with the Northrop Grumman Quality Assurance (QA) program.
Establish and perform plant modeling using MATLAB/Simulink. The purpose of the model may relate to component sizing, studies to determine operating ranges, supporting design-by-analysis, performance verification, or accident analyses.
Propose design/control solutions to system engineers, based on insights gained from the analyses.
Write reports to document model.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors of Science in STEM related field with 8 years experience; Masters with 6 Years experience; 4 Years with PhD.
US Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance
Strong knowledge of reactivity control
Experience working with or for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) or commercial nuclear experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Active Secret Clearance
Advanced degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering.
Familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink programming languages and scripting experience
Familiarity with programming in one or more of the following: C#, C++, Python, VisualBasic, or MATLAB.
Familiarity with industrial process control and control theory.
Practical experience with power systems, thermal energy equipment, or industrial plants
Knowledgeable about NQA-1 Quality Requirements
