Job Description

General Dynamics Mission SystemsCanada (GDMSC) is seeking a Senior Manager, Government Contracts and Commercial Services to join our Commercial Services team in Ottawa. This senior leadership role supports a segment of our Canadian domestic and international customer portfolio, which continues to increase in scale, complexity, and contractual demand, and requires strong people leadership, and deep expertise in contractual terms and conditions.

This is a working manager role. In addition to leading and developing a team of Commercial Officers, the Senior Manager works closely with the team and takes a hands-on approach to ensure the success of complex, high-value contractual activities acting as a point of contact on strategic initiatives and an escalation point for issues across all projects within the assigned portfolio. The role operates in close partnership with a peer Senior Managers who leads a different aspects of the commercial portfolio, ensuring alignment, consistency, and effective workload coverage across Commercial Services.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Act as a partner to the business by demonstrating subject matter knowledge, providing advice, leading negotiations, considering internal and external needs and balancing business and governance objectives.
  • Develop, mentor, and lead a team of Commercial Officers supporting programs within the assigned portfolio
  • Personally manage and oversee complex, high-risk, and high-value contracts, including negotiation, execution, and ongoing administration
  • Maintain overall accountability for the quality, accuracy, and suitability of contracts across assigned programs
  • Act as the senior commercial authority and trusted advisor to program leadership and internal stakeholders.Serve as a point of escalation for contractual or program issues, driving resolution and risk mitigation
  • Collaborate to align commercial approaches with peer Senior Managers, share best practices, and ensure continuity across portfolios
  • Support proposal preparation and review, including participation in RFIs and RFPs, to support current and future programs
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships, fostering effective communication and trust
  • Manage resources and priorities to ensure contractual activities are delivered efficiently and on time
  • Lead internal reviews, providing timely reporting and status updates to senior leadership
  • Contribute to functional initiatives and overall departmental administration with a focus on strengthening commercial effectiveness and long-term sustainability
  • Travel occasionally to interface with customers and key stakeholders, as required


Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree with preference for degree in Business, Commerce, Law or other related field plus adequate relevant experience to lead at a senior level.
  • Strong preference for experience in complex defence procurement and government contracting
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cost, schedule, and competing priorities while delivering results on time and within budget
  • Strong working knowledge of contract development, negotiation, execution, and compliance
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to influence, negotiate, and build effective working relationships with internal teams and external customers
  • Experience providing clear, concise briefings to senior management and customer representatives

It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. Applicants may be required to meet additional security requirements in order to gain access to technical data, classified areas or information that is subject to international regulations. You must be eligible to work in Canada.

The expected Salary range for this position is $125,000 - $175,000 CAD annual.
