We are looking for a Design System Lead to own the strategy, evolution, and governance of our design systems shared design language and UI component library in Seattle, WA or Denver, CO. In this role, you will bridge the gap between design and engineering, ensuring our product experiences are scalable, accessible, and cohesive. You will act as a champion for the system(s), driving adoption across cross-functional teams and accelerating our product development lifecycle.

Position Responsibilities:

  • AI-Driven Design Operations: Integrate AI tools and workflows into the design system lifecycle to automate asset creation, code generation, and documentation.

  • Ecosystem Strategy: Oversee and scale the entire design system ecosystem, ensuring seamless integration across various platforms (Web, iOS, Android), sub-brands, and business units.

  • Strategy & Roadmap: Define the vision, governance model, and long-term roadmap for the design system to support multi-platform growth.

  • Documentation & Standards: Create and maintain clear usage guidelines, contribution rules, and component documentation to support consistent adoption of the design system.

  • Governance & Component Lifecycle: Establish standard processes for proposing, creating, testing, versioning, approving exceptions, and deprecating system assets to ensure new components and patterns align with system standards.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product Designers, Engineers, and Product Managers to align design assets, support adoption, and maintain design system standards across teams.

  • System Maintenance: Manage design libraries in Figma and collaborate with engineering to maintain corresponding front-end code repositories.

  • Adoption & Enablement: Promote system adoption, run training workshops, write documentation, and support onboarding for new team members.

  • Metrics & Reporting: Define, track, and share design system success metrics, such as adoption rates and design/development velocity gains.

  • Industry Fluency (or Emerging Practices): Brings genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for the craft by staying at the forefront of design systems thinking through conferences, community engagement, and self-driven learning, then translating those insights into shared knowledge that raises the bar for the whole team.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 1+ years hands-on experience leveraging AI plugins, LLMs/ML, or prompt engineering to generate code tokens, automate Figma workflows, or draft system documentation

  • 3+ years experience managing complex design system ecosystems, including handling cross-platform synchronization, multi-brand themes, and token management systems (e.g., Tokens Studio, Figma Variables)

  • 3+ years in Product Design, UI Engineering, or Design Operations

  • 3+ years expertise in Figma including variables, auto-layout, component properties, strong naming conventions, file structure, version control practices, and library management.

  • 3+ years of front-end code and technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, token architecture, and frameworks like Angular, React and SwiftUI)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Systems Thinking: Expert ability to conceptualize complex, scalable UI patterns and understand how individual components impact the entire ecosystem

  • Operational Skills: Strong organization and program management skills, including prioritization, release coordination, and tracking system work

  • Leadership: Proven ability to influence without authority, manage multiple stakeholders, and advocate for system-level changes

  • Accessibility: Strong knowledge of WCAG standards and how to build accessible design components.
