Job Description:
General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), a leading engineering and consulting firm providing scientific analysis, scientific applications development, systems engineering and GIS services, is seeking a Scientific Software Data Analyst to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA's) National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI).
Position
This position works with a team supporting NCEI's Coasts, Oceans, and Geophysics (COGS) Division, specifically with Scientific Data and Information Management Systems. The incumbent is expected to have information management, processing and stewardship, as well as scientific data analysis, metadata, and basic cloud/artificial intelligence (AI) experience to facilitate the work. The candidate should be experienced working with legacy data systems and the fundamentals of translating workflows to a modern environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Facilitate data transfer and integration for product development tasks to archive, preserve, and access and products.
- Work in collaboration to analyze data acquisition processes for coastal, oceanographic and geophysical data.
- Understand and apply data labeling and tagging techniques to the current NCEI archive.
- Understand and apply analytic tools for the change detection, monitoring, and quality control of scientific data.
- Coordinate with data contributors to quality control and optimize metadata structures for long-term preservation and stewardship.
- Utilize and apply AI towards the archive of oceanographic and geophysical data archive, cleaning, screening, data provenance, data stewardship, and search.
Required Skills
- Minimum 5 years of experience with scientific data analysis
- Modern Computer Languages (Python, R, Java, JavaScript)
- Jira, Confluence, MS Office, Google Workspace, Git
Preferred Skills
- Geospatial metadata standards for search and discovery (FGDC, ISO)
- Experience working in cloud environment (AWS preferred)
- XML editors
The likely salary range for this position is $59,500 - $80,500. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
