**This position will be physically located in Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP**

The Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse provides comprehensive perioperative nursing care in a hospital or multi-service ambulatory surgical center environment. The RN-OR plans, directs, and coordinates operating room activities, delivers professional nursing care to surgical patients, and ensures compliance with national safety, infection control, and quality standards. This role operates independently and collaboratively in support of surgical teams, patient safety, and optimal outcomes in a Military Treatment Facility (MTF) or deployed/remote environment.


Responsibilities

  • The RN-OR is responsible for perioperative nursing care for patients of all ages and conditions, including newborns, children, adults, and the elderly, across elective, urgent, and emergency procedures. Key duties include:
  • OR Management and Coordination
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate all operating room activities.
  • Prepare and maintain the OR environment for surgical procedures, including equipment, materials, and emergency readiness.
  • Assemble, set up, and operate specialized surgical equipment accurately.
  • Maintain communication with recovery room, ICU, obstetrics, and nursing units regarding patient progress and post-surgical needs.
  • Patient Care & Safety
  • Provide professional perioperative nursing care before, during, and after surgery.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care based on individual needs and surgical procedures.
  • Administer medications, fluids, blood products, and electrolytes accurately.
  • Monitor and operate therapeutic and resuscitative equipment safely.
  • Recognize and respond to medical emergencies, including initiating CPR and assisting in ACLS measures.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, patient safety, and perioperative policies.
  • Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation of patient care events, laboratory and diagnostic orders, and process improvement activities in accordance with MTF standards.
  • Utilize electronic medical records for ordering labs, x-rays, medications, and consultations.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and MTF-approved abbreviation guidelines.
  • Education & Team Collaboration
  • Participate in ongoing in-service education and professional development programs.
  • Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and families.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior OR staff and support personnel.
  • Coordinate patient care across a continuum to ensure optimal outcomes, quality, and cost-effective care.
  • Other duties as asigned

Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
  • Education:
    • Associate, Diploma, or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program (National League for Nursing).
  • Licensure / Registration:
    • Current, active, valid, unrestricted RN license in at least one U.S. state, DC, U.S. territory, or Commonwealth.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 3 years of operating room clinical experience.
    • Experience must include all phases of multi-service OR operations.
    • Documentation of formal OR surgical nurse training required (certificate or verification letter).
  • Life Support / Certification:
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or Red Cross) required and maintained.
  • Additional Requirements
    • Maintain licensure, BLS certification, and formal OR training for the duration of employment.
    • Meet all medical, security, credentialing, and deployment requirements.
    • Ability to work in deployed, austere, or resource-limited environments.
    • On-call 24/7.
  • Skills:
    • Expertise in perioperative nursing principles, pharmacology, laboratory values, and patient assessment.
    • Proficient in OR equipment operation, sterilization, and setup procedures.
    • Ability to synthesize clinical data and make appropriate decisions rapidly.
    • Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills.
    • Knowledge of regulatory, national, and MTF standards for surgical patient care
  • Working Conditions:
    • Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.
    • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
    • The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals
    • The worker is subject to vibration. Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
    • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
    • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
