Northrop Grumman Defense Systems has an opening for a Principal Engineer Systems. We are looking for you to join our team as a Principal Engineer Systems based out of Orlando, FL.
As a Principal Engineer Systems at Northrop Grumman, you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Cross-Domain Handling of Releasable Data (CHORD) portfolio. CHORD is a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) two-domain Cross Domain Solution (CDS).
The CHORD portfolio comprises multiple contract awards and with various customers. The successful candidate will be exceptionally meticulous, collaborative, open, transparent, and team-oriented with a focus on team empowerment & personal responsibility, flexibility, continuous learning, and a culture of seeking the best performance from everyone.
Roles/Responsibilities:
- The Principal Engineer Systems will serve as an integral member of the systems engineering team and will be responsible for collaborating with the customer, systems engineering leads, architects, software, gateware and test teams to develop concepts of operations, system concept definitions, and to shape and decompose system level requirements.
- Ideal candidates are innovative, capable of multitasking, possess strong systems engineering knowledge, and are adaptable to fast-paced environments and agile methodologies.
- Candidates should be a self-starter who can initiate research and clearly document results and should be proactive about identifying gaps and finding solutions.
- They should have demonstrated proficiency in analytical thinking and problem-solving skills and a Systems Thinking mindset.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) field and 5 years of related technical experience; Master’s degree in a STEM field and 3 years of related technical experience, or PHD in a STEM field and 1 year of related technical experience.
- Active DoD Secret Clearance.
- Experience developing concepts of operation and interface definitions, decomposing and allocating requirements, and translating requirements into hardware and software specifications.
- Experience communicating technical topics clearly and guiding technical discussions with cross-functional engineering teams.
- Experience with requirements analysis, development, and management
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including developers, analysts, and other stakeholders.
- Experience with system software architecture/design and experience developing software design artifacts.
- Experience in full lifecycle of Systems Engineering, including requirements decomposition, test planning, and requirements verification.
- Large scale / complex system development experience across multiple phases of a development program: preliminary design, detailed design, integration and test, verification and sell off, transition to production.
- Understanding of software development methodologies.
- Experience developing and maintaining clear and comprehensive technical documentation for systems and processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Requirements management tool such as Rational DOORS
- Proficiency in SysML with experience developing use cases, sequence diagrams, and activity diagrams.
- Strong understanding of Model-Based Systems Engineering principles and tools.
- Experience implementing and using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools, practices, and methods.
- Experience developing models in Cameo Enterprise Architecture.
- Experience working in an Agile framework.
- Experience preparing verification documentation for system level requirements.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities.
