About the Role

Our dynamic, customer facing Independent Nuclear Assurance (INA) team has been supporting the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) naval nuclear propulsion programme for over sixty years. A number of exciting opportunities have arisen to join this diverse team of highly experienced staff who provide a key role in supporting the safe operation of the UK’s submarine fleet.

As a Nuclear Technical Engineer, you will help deliver independent assurance services to the MoD. This includes the provision of safety and technical advice for both current and future submarine Naval Reactor Plants (NRP), which involves working with a wide range of technical disciplines to provide balanced, proportionate and timely support.

We are seeking personnel who are passionate about nuclear safety and a desire to work in support of some of the most complex, challenging and important projects within the UK. This work requires a general knowledge of the design and operation of the NRP, safety case development and methodologies, and the ability to communicate effectively.

We are particularly interested in individuals with an aptitude and enthusiasm for mechanical systems and structural integrity to complement our existing team.

Comprehensive training can be provided across a range of technical areas to support development. Therefore, if you feel you meet most but not all the requirements, or work in civil nuclear/high hazard industries and are keen to take on a new challenge, we would like to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing authoritative Advice to the MoD through safety and technical assessments.
  • Supporting meetings with the MoD and their contractors.
  • Co-ordinating output across a range of relevant technical disciplines.
  • Working according to the best applicable safety, technical and regulatory standards against agreed programmes and budgets.
  • Working in accordance with business requirements for health, safety, environment, and security, as well as seeking continuous improvements in all aspects of work.

Here’s What You’ll Need

  • Degree (Level 6, minimum requirement) in science or engineering (or equivalent).
  • Membership of (or working towards) a professional institution is desirable.
  • Knowledge or operational experience of the Naval Reactor Plant is desirable.
  • Knowledge of safety cases (structures and function).
  • Familiarity with related documentation (NRPA NSMAs, DSA02-DNSR, ONR SAPs etc).
  • Clear, concise technical writing and communication skills.
  • This role will require security clearance; therefore, applicants should hold or be able to obtain security clearance in the UK.
