Overview

**This position will be physically located in Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP**

The Medical Laboratory Technologist performs routine and specialized diagnostic laboratory testing, maintains laboratory equipment, ensures quality control, and supports clinical decision-making by providing accurate and timely laboratory results. The Medical Laboratory Technologist operates under the guidance of the Laboratory Technician Lead or Laboratory Manager and contributes to the smooth operation of the medical laboratory in a deployed or operational setting.


Responsibilities

This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company

  • Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests, including hematology, microbiology, chemistry, immunology, and blood banking as required.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Adhere to quality control and assurance procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
  • Process specimens, prepare slides, and analyze test results according to laboratory protocols.
  • Accurately document laboratory results in medical records and laboratory information systems.
  • Maintain a safe and compliant laboratory environment, following infection control, biohazard, and OSHA regulations.
  • Assist in inventory management, including ordering and restocking reagents and supplies.
  • Support senior laboratory staff and collaborate with medical providers for patient care needs.
  • Participate in laboratory training, drills, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Some on-call may apply.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
  • Education:
    • Associate degree or completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2 years of experience performing clinical laboratory testing in a hospital, medical, or laboratory setting.
    • Experience in deployed or austere environments preferred but not required.
  • Licensure / Registration:
    • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) preferred.
    • Must have ability to obtain and maintain a Child Care National Agency Check (CNACI) clearance requiring US Citizenship or Permanent Residency.
  • Certification:
    • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) preferred.
  • Additional Requirements
    • Maintain licensure, certification, and BCLS for the duration of employment.
    • Meet all deployment, security, and credentialing requirements.
    • Ability to function independently and as part of a laboratory team in deployed or operational settings.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in clinical laboratory testing procedures and techniques.
    • Knowledge of laboratory safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance.
    • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and documentation skills.
    • Ability to operate laboratory equipment safely and effectively.
    • Good communication and teamwork skills for collaboration with medical and administrative staff.
    • Adaptability to work in deployed, austere, or resource-limited environments.
  • Working Conditions:
    • Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 130 degrees in the summer months).
    • Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.
    • The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard about ambient noise level.
    • The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals
    • The worker is subject to vibration. Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
    • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
    • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
