Overview:

The Quonset Point Test department, 972, is hiring mechanical technicians to perform acceptance testing in support ofVirginiaandColumbiaclass submarine construction. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, all aspects of the following:

    Hydrostatic testing of ships hardwareProof of cleanliness flushes of ships hardwareHydraulic valve operationTank level calibrationCompartment and lead bin completion (air) testsUtilize provided test documentation to perform test per procedureRecord test results and document UNSAT conditions
This work will be performed both in the shop and onboard submarines under construction. Technicians are trained and required to obtain mechanical test director qualification.

This is an hourly position located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.

Qualifications

Required:

    High School Diploma or GED OR 2+ years of related technical experience2+ years experience in a mechanical, piping or structural fieldAble to work in confined spaces and in areas that are not climate controlledBasic math skills including percentages, decimals and divisionStrong reading comprehension skillsAvailable to work all shiftsBasic computer skillsIndividuals will be required to possess their own basic hand toolsAble to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the Department of Defense.
Preferred:

    Navy Nuclear Machinist Mate or Auxiliary training highly desiredPrior US Navy and/or shipboard testing experience is highly desiredRelated military training, Vocational, Technical, Community College or appropriate Apprenticeship programsTroubleshooting experienceFamiliarity with proceduresand mechanical/piping drawingsExperience working with cleanliness control qualifications
