The Space Manufacturing & Engineering Center has a need for a Manager Mechanical Engineering 2, to be a functional manager and contribute technically to programs under the departments of Space Production Operations & Test and Manufacturing Engineering & Operations in Redondo Beach, CA.

These are highly dynamic, interactive positions. You will interact with numerous stakeholders including program management, systems engineering, flight hardware design engineers, and logistical support services. Outstanding organizational and leadership skills are required to succeed in these roles.

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Staffing support to all space systems and space programs
  • Conducting periodic performance evaluations, including mid-year and annual reviews
  • Providing technical leadership and guidance to the staff
  • Managing indirect and capital needs
  • Professional development and mentoring of direct reports
  • Supporting Functional Homeroom initiatives and projects which include process improvement, Event Response Teams, Corrective and Preventive Action implementation
  • Analyze metrics to meet cost, schedule, technical performance, and quality commitments.

Flexible Schedules:  For example, some roles offer the ability to work a 9/80 work schedule, which allows an employee to work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday and take every other Friday off of work.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline plus 7 years of engineering experience OR Masters of Science Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline plus 5 years of engineering experience.
  • Proven leadership experience on a project and/or team.
  • Experience in the Aerospace and Defense industry.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret Clearance OR SCI Access.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An active DoD Top Secret Clearance or SCI Access
  • Experience with leading large functional projects.
  • Knowledge of spacecraft sub-assemblies and/or integration and test.
  • Experience in space systems and space system production, integration and test.
