SAIC is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Panama City Beach, Florida. You will be working in a dynamic environment at our Holley Engineering and Integration Center supporting rapid development, prototyping, and production of cutting-edge adaptive warfare technologies. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a balance of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a collaborative mindset, with experience in handling mid-level engineering responsibilities. This role will support mechanical equipment design, system design, testing, and troubleshooting. Support can vary from Research & Development to Production Support.

The program focuses on asymmetric and adaptive warfare systems designed to provide flexible, cost-effective solutions for various asset types and modalities. It supports accelerated development and fielding of various technologies to address emergent warfighter requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute technical expertise to support a variety of mechanical engineering projects under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Assist in designing and developing mechanical systems, equipment packages, and structural components to meet project requirements.
  • Capture and interpret design requirements, with a basic understanding of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles.
  • Conduct feasibility assessments and testing for new or modified designs, reporting findings to stakeholders.
  • Support and collaborate with technicians and support personnel in preparing detailed designs, documentation, testing protocols, and prototype fabrication.
  • Provide technical contributions to the project's documentation and technical writing efforts.
  • Assist senior team members with troubleshooting and resolving technical issues on mechanical systems and components.
  • Prepare variance reports and address issues related to technical or manufacturing documentation when required.
  • Maintain communication with program management and integration staff to align and resolve technical challenges.
  • Review and refine drawings, specifications, and procurement documentation to ensure vendors understand technical requirements and risks are addressed.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure compliance with engineering standards and design objectives.

Qualifications

Relevant Background and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline and two (2) years of experience.
  • Experience in mechanical engineering design, analysis, and testing.
  • Knowledge of materials science and the selection of materials appropriate to mechanical systems and structural applications.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar tools) for mechanical design and documentation.
  • Experience in designing mechanical components such as enclosures, mounts, and assemblies for ruggedized environments.
  • Familiarity with thermal management and heat dissipation for mechanical and electronic systems.
  • Ability to analyze stress, vibration, and mechanical fatigue to ensure component/system integrity.
  • Hands-on ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems and identify solutions.
  • Experience contributing to engineering documentation for a technical data package, including drawings, test procedures, and specifications.
  • Ability to read and understand basic electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Experience working with manufacturing processes such as machining, 3D printing, or sheet metal fabrication.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
