Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector has an immediate need for Manufacturing Process Engineers to support the Final Assembly areas within manufacturing. The primary location is our Linthicum, MD facility.

 

Manufacturing Process Engineers have responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:

 

Factory Support:

  • Monitoring process performance; optimizing and implementing improvements to ensure stable and expected outputs; collaborating with multiple manufacturing teams in using lean and continuous improvement tools

  • Resolving technical manufacturing disruptions related to materials, designs, equipment and tooling, training and instructions; collaborating with design engineers to resolve technical problems

  • Training new personnel on processes and designing training materials; assisting the build team to meet the requirements of J-STD-001, IPC-610, IPC-620, and relevant MIL-STDs

  • Supporting factory maintenance personnel with the troubleshooting and repair of process equipment

 

Process Development:

  • Developing new, optimizing, maintaining and improving, manufacturing processes, and parameters, to achieve affordable and reliable production capabilities

  • Identifying process-required or product-specific tools and equipment; creating custom tools and fixtures and documenting designs

  • Providing data required to develop capacity models, workspace layouts, and product workflow routings

  • Specifying new manufacturing equipment for production; leading deployment to ensure factory compliance and readiness for production

  • Identifying new technologies that achieve required capabilities or capacities, developing ROI justification for technology deployments or process improvements

  • Creating and maintaining process documentation and assembly work instructions from complex engineering drawings and parts lists

  • Creating and managing project plans (tasks, resources and schedules) for process development activities and new equipment implementations

 

Design and Engineering Support:

  • Performing producibility reviews of new product designs; recommending product design changes to improve manufacturability; training design engineers to assess designs for manufacturability

  • Utilizing Design to Cost (DTC), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and Design for Automation (DFA) tools to deliver cost-effective and producible products

  • Documenting state-of-the-art process capabilities and guidelines for product designers

 

Miscellaneous:

  • Providing supplier support, as needed, to resolve supplier issues in meeting process and product requirements

  • Providing Request for Proposal (RFP) inputs, specifically as it relates to Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) and material requirements for tooling, capital equipment and/or new process development and documentation

  • Travelling to suppliers and customers may be required

The chosen candidate must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic, and high visibility environment; work well in a team environment; and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

This requisition may be filled as a Manufacturing Process Engineer or a Principal Manufacturing Process Engineer based on the qualifications listed below.

This position can be filled at either a level 2/Manufacturing Process Engineer or level 3/Principal Manufacturing Process Engineer.

Basic Qualifications for a Manufacturing Process Engineer 2:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other related STEM area and at least 2+ years of experience in Manufacturing/Process Engineering, Production, or related area - OR - a Master's degree in a STEM area.

  • Hands-on experience with electronics assembly processes and equipment such as epoxy dispensing and curing, conformal coating, thermal interface material dispense/application, soldering, mechanical assembly, Automated Optical Inspection, component/assembly test, etc.

  • 3D Solid Modeling experience using a CAD software

  • Ability to obtain/maintain Secret level clearance.

 

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Manufacturing Process Engineer 3:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other related STEM area and at least 5+ years of experience in Manufacturing/Process Engineering, Production, or related area - OR - a Master's degree with 3+ years of experience

  • Hands-on experience with electronics assembly processes and equipment such as epoxy dispensing and curing, conformal coating, thermal interface material dispense/application, soldering, mechanical assembly, Automated Optical Inspection, component/assembly test, etc.

  • 3D Solid Modeling experience using a CAD software

  • Ability to obtain/maintain Secret level clearance.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with J-STD and MIL-STD requirements, including MIL-STD-883 & MIL-PRF-38534, J-STD-001, IPC-610, IPC-620

  • Experience with composite bonding or fiber optic assembly

  • 3D modeling experience in Unigraphics/NX

  • 3D modeling experience with assembly tooling, concept development, and tool/fixture creation

  • Experience with the Teamcenter Manufacturing tool suite and Manufacturing Process Planning

  • Familiarity with Design of Experiment (DOE), Statistical Process Control (SPC), and 6 sigma concepts for process development and control

  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Robotics or automation experience

Primary Level Salary Range: $79,600.00 - $119,400.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,900.00 - $148,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
