Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman seeks a talented professional to join the engineering team in Aurora, Colorado as a Functional SW Engineering Manager Level 2 managing a team of Software Engineers and related disciplines. This is a dual role encompassing both people leadership and technical execution on a program performing out of Aurora. The successful candidate will have experience contributing to program success and managing people across the following disciplines: Software Engineering, Network Engineering, Database Administration, and Systems Administration.
What You’ll get to Do:
This is a dual role encompassing both functional management and technical performance on program within a Software related discipline. Technical program performance will serve as the primary aspect of the overall role with part-time responsibilities managing a team of 12-18 engineers. In the functional capacity, responsibilities will include goal setting, conducting performance assessments, ensuring engineering process rigor, training, all phases of the staffing process, mentoring, coaching, employee development and other functional management activities as assigned.
The successful candidate will clearly demonstrate strong leadership skills to achieve sustainable top performance. He/she will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. Demonstrated abilities to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching, are a must. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, and the ideal candidate will have demonstrated success collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 8 years related experience in Software Engineering, DevOps, Network Engineering, System Administration, or Database Administration; Master's degree and 6 years of related experience; or a PhD and 4 years of related experience.
Active Top Secret/SCI clearance required at time of application
Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Ability to successfully prioritize tasks and obligations
Strong practical knowledge of Engineering Process and Management
Ability to resolve conflicts and negotiate with positive outcome
Experience working with both internal and external customers and partners
Preferred Qualifications:
Direct supervisory experience and/or significant team leadership such as IPT or equivalent role; Functional management experience
Development experience in Java, Python, C/C++ or RHEL system administration
Process improvement experience
Breadth of software engineering lifecycle experience on large or small programs
Strong understanding of agile principles as well as other lean methodologies
Experience working with system requirements and architecture
Experience with DoD programs and processes
