Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Maintenance Technician – Level 2 to join our team in Charlotte, NC.     

An organization within Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems, SYNOPTICS is the world-wide leader in the growth, fabrication, and coating of crystalline materials used in laser systems. These “solid-state” laser crystals are used in products ranging from medical lasers to military laser systems.

The Charlotte facility has been operating for over 40 years in the laser industry and has developed the reputation of providing the highest quality products with timely deliveries.

Within the facility, solid-state oxide and fluoride crystals are grown from a high-temperature melt. SYNOPTICS has full optical fabrication capabilities for various plano and spherical geometries. SYNOPTICS serves the photonics and optics industry across the globe.

1st Shift

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including lubrication, belt replacement, and filter changes on pumps, fans, and motors.

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electrical issues in machinery and equipment, such as low-voltage motors, controls, and drives.

  • Repair or replace piping and tubing systems, including iron, copper, and PVC materials.

  • Work independently or collaboratively with other technicians to identify system issues, determine root causes, and recommend areas for improvement.

  • Assist engineers with the design, installation, and commissioning of product support equipment, machinery, and systems.

  • Conduct regular inspections to assess maintenance needs, prevent equipment breakdowns, and ensure optimal performance of facility equipment and machinery.

  • Read and interpret technical documentation, such as prints, diagrams, specifications, manufacturer manuals, and engineering drawings.

  • Perform general building maintenance tasks as needed to support overall facility operations.

  

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience.   

  • No clearance required to start

  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including gears, bearings, alignment, hydraulics, and pneumatics.

  • Basic electrical knowledge, including motor control, electrical distribution, and machinery installation.

  • Basic use of hand tools, power tools, and equipment such as grinders, drills, or saws

  • Proficiency in soldering and brazing copper piping.

  • Physical ability to work from ladders and elevated areas.

  • Capability to repeatedly lift up to 45 pounds during a standard work shift.

 Preferred Qualifications:  

  • 5 years of related experience preferred

  • Hands-on experience in servicing and maintaining HVAC equipment.

  • Familiarity with industrial equipment, such as cooling towers, chillers, and air handlers.

  • Associate's degree (two-year technical program) in a related field.

Primary Level Salary Range: $49,100.00 - $81,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
