Lead HVAC Technician (Starship)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with maintenance coordinators and engineers to prioritize, plan, and schedule maintenance and repairs for HVAC support equipment on facilities critical systems including air handlers, chilled water condenser pumps, cooling towers, valves, and filters
  • Maintain preventative maintenance schedule on launch associated HVAC systems
  • Collaborate with engineering and managers to maintain systems in peak operating condition
  • Ensure the team follows all regulations and appropriate SpaceX procedures including quality policies, safety policies, and standards per Occupational Safety and Health Administration, United States Environmental Protection Agency, National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, National Fire Protection Association, The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, National Electrical Code, and other agencies
  • Execute sitewide processes to increase reliability developments

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency diploma
  • 2+ years of maintenance technician experience
  • 3+ years of experience with HVAC, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical, and control systems

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate degree or vocational equivalent in HVAC and/or air conditioning systems
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience writing detailed repair reports
  • Knowledge in the following areas: tubing, pipe-fittings, rotating machinery (pumps, air compressors, etc.), and a variety of mechanical fasteners
  • Experience with alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) electrical in the aerospace field
  • Knowledge of high-pressure gas, flammable gas, and refrigeration gases
  • Experience in maintenance of high efficiency particulate air filters (HEPA) and standard air handling unit (AHU) filtration systems
  • Experience with variable frequency drive (VFD)
  • Understanding of the theory of operation for refrigeration, motors, and mechanics
  • Experience using various hand tools and power tools including multi-meters

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to perform the following functions: kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions with small openings, climbing hand over hand, lifting 25 lbs. unassisted, and working on ladders/lifts at elevated heights
  • Willing to work overtime and weekends as needed
  • Comfortable working in outdoor environments - heat, cold, rain, etc.
