Job Description

Amentum is looking for an experienced HVAC Mechanic to join our team in Suitland MD.

The Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Mechanic installs, modifies, and repairs refrigeration - hermetic, semi-hermetic, mechanical, screw, scroll and centrifugal units to 1100 tons; air conditioning, ventilation; reverse osmosis systems, computer rooms; process coolers; ice machines; evaporative cooling; air compressing and related control systems, including pneumatic, DDC, and building control systems equipment. Maintains and repairs stationary steam boilers and boiler house auxiliaries by performing the following duties.

  • Must possess and maintain an active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Must have a HVAC Journeyman's license and CFC certificate.

Responsibilities:

  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs Honeywell Enterprise Building Integrator (EBI) Direct Digital Control (DDC) system systems and equipment as well as related mechanical equipment and systems, such as HVAC and utilities.
  • Assures calibration and maintenance of instrumentation, equipment, and controls for optimum performance.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment such as motors, engines, pumps, belts, fans, air handling units, VAV and fan powered boxes.
  • Maintains the safe operation of systems including electronic/pneumatic environmental controls, oil/gas fired water tube boilers, and auxiliary equipment such as various types of pumps, de-aerating tanks, air compressor blowers, etc.
  • Must be able to quickly become familiar with the design and layout of the facilities; to learn the locations of installed environmental control and monitoring systems / equipment; and understand operating procedures relating to environmental controls.
  • Site Subject Matter Expert (SME) for recommendations of site operations procedures for equipment and recommends facilities reliability improvements.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists maintenance workers in solving work problems.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail, good comprehensive and analytical skills, and excellent organizational skills.
  • Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, computers, and diagnostic hardware to perform work.
  • This person performs difficult installation tasks involving assembly, testing, calibrating, and adjusting of temperature control and environmental control systems such as air conditioning plants, air environmental control systems, air distribution systems and complex dual equipment cooling installations, specialized refrigerated warehouses and facilities, and evaporative mechanical ventilation, and dehumidification systems.
  • Installs new or repaired component and performs complex modifications of systems and components in accordance with applicable electrical publications and directives and will maintain and repair specialized laboratory equipment such as fume hoods, de-ionized water systems, bio-clean systems, vacuum systems, cascade refrigeration systems, and laboratory sinks.
  • This mechanic may perform complex repair of systems component such as compressors, condensers, heat pumps regulators, fluid and refrigerant gas lines valves, meters, gages, thermostats, pumps, mechanical linkage, and electrical sensing, switching, and controlling devices including pneumatic controls, variable speed drives, digital controlled devices, electronic, hydraulic heating and cooling and economizer systems.

Minimum Knowledge

  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience as commercial or residential WAC Refrigeration Mechanic.

Work Environment

  • Works in an area in proximity to toxic chemical agents.
  • The individual and supervisor assure that the degree of risk is reduced to the lowest level.
  • Work involves repetitive motions and standing for long periods of time.
  • Work involves hazardous noise areas.
  • May be required to perform work using and/or wearing protective equipment.
  • Must be able to acknowledge and respond to Emergency lights and sirens and be capable of wearing a protective mask.

Compensation

This position is compensated at an hourly rate of $50.24, in accordance with the terms set forth in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Benefits

Benefits for this position are provided in accordance with the applicable union Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

  • Paid Time Off (PTO) is accrued at an hourly rate of 3.08 hours per pay period.
  • Sick Leave is accrued at a rate of 3.69 hours per pay period.

All accruals and benefit entitlements are subject to the terms and conditions outlined in the union CBA.
