Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Fitting Hull butts, critical inserts and penetrations
  • Layout, fabrication, assembly and installation of foundations, structures, bulkheads, frames, components and deck packages
  • Developing a working knowledge of structural weld joint fit-up/weld symbols, burning and grinding operations
  • Interpreting construction drawings/blueprints
  • Aligning parts in relation to each other using jacks, clips and wedges through use of blueprints and templates
  • Tack-welding structural parts as required
  • Utilizing hands and power tools in the steel fabrication trade
  • Ability to read and interpret written policies, procedures and guidelines as work assignments will be accomplished using company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, and shipyard procedures
  • Work conditions may include entry in restricted/confined spaces
This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalentOR a minimum of 2 years related technical experience
  • Shipfitting, metal fabrication and/or relevant experience or training
  • Available to work all shifts
  • Ability to work at heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, diagrams, and perform basic layout functions
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools
Preferred:

  • Steel fabrication or carpentry experience
  • Experience working in the construction industry or a manufacturing environment
  • Metal fabrication experience
  • Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
  • Military/Navy experience
