Equipment Rental Coordinator

Responsibilities for this Position

Bath Iron Works (BIW), a General Dynamics company, is seeking a detail-oriented and results-drivenEquipment Rental Coordinatorto manage all aspects of equipment rented in support of our internal customers. This individual will be responsible for direct daily engagement with our suppliers and customers with the intent of executing, monitoring, optimizing, and reporting on rental equipment support and usage to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency across the shipyard, while Safely Executing High-Quality Work in alignment with BIWs operational values. Operating under the BIW Business Operating System (BOS), the Equipment Rental Coordinator ensures compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards while coordinating with other key stakeholders to meet overall milestones.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Leadership:

• Collaborate with our suppliers and partners to ensure only Safe and Reliable equipment is brought into the Shipyard.

Project Execution:

• Serve as the primary point of contact (24-hour availability) for all rental equipment matters with our customers and our equipment rental partners.
• Track and manage all rented equipment including delivery, usage, duration, condition, and return.
• Review and analyze rental usage to identify underutilized or unnecessary equipment.
• Maintain accurate records of all rental assets, invoices, and equipment status.
• Regularly report on rental costs, utilization rates, and cost-saving opportunities.

Team Collaboration and Communication:

• Monitor rental agreements and ensure timely off-renting of equipment to avoid overcharges.
• Coordinate with departments and supervisors to forecast equipment needs and avoid redundant rentals.
• Work closely with procurement and finance teams to ensure cost-effective rental decisions.

Continuous Improvement:

• Identify opportunities to replace rentals with owned equipment when cost-effective.
• Recommend the best practices and process improvements to optimize equipment usage and minimize waste.
• Adhere to and support BIWs Business Operating System (BOS) to ensure consistent processes, accountability, and continuous improvement across the equipment rental operations.

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Graduate Apprentice or Bachelors Degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field preferred.

• Strong understanding of industrial equipment and rental processes required.
• Basic proficiency with personal computers including Microsoft Suite is required. Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), MAXIMO, SAP, Oracle experience a plus.
• Experience in equipment coordination, logistics, procurement, or asset management preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to collaborate across multiple departments.
• Ability to analyze data and generate actionable insights.
